I'm going to direct you to a web blog of problems with these appliances. You're not alone, and it seems to me that these units have serious parts problems. Read Jay of Palm Coast's complaint, it's the same as your problem, and, as I suspect, the control board is the culprit, since it controls the defrost cycles. However, make sure your coils are not iced over, since ice will block the air flow. Here's the site:

This product sounds like a lemon- maybe Samsung will work with you, if you complain hard. Good luck, hope this helps.

Freezer is forming frost around the light fixture located in the ceiling of the freezer compartment. We must manually remove the frost approximately two times per week.

If you are certain that the evaporator fan is running then your automatic defrost function has stopped working.
There are 3 things that cause it to stop working:
1. The defrost control
Item 801 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5206998&diagram_id=26604625#d26604625
2 The defrost heater
Item 826 above link
3. The thermo disc Item 621 above link.
4. The bi-metal thermostat (closed below 60 deg F)
Item 4 can be tested for continuity at temps below 60 deg F.
Item 2 and 3 can be tested at room temp for continuity.

Item 1 the main board controls the defrost cycle which turns the defrost heater on and off.

Primary suspects would be the defrost heater and thermo disc.
Shop areound for the heater if you find that is bad... the link I posted that heater seems VERY expensive to me. The heater PN: WR50X10042 I note prices in the range of $115.00 - $171.00

This PN defrost heater has a history of repeated failure.

Did you clean the drain hose with boiling water? Pouring the boiling water will certainly get rid of the ice build up inside the hose - Ice forming there can also be as a result of the Defrost Element, or Defrost element sensor. Might consider looking at that too. Regards - J.Q

My refrigerator isnt keeping cold for like 3 days & now the freezer is starting to not work because the food is starting to unfreeze? what can I do?

this sounds like a defrost problem remove the rear panel in the freezer and use a hair dryer to defrost the coils. after you have the coils clean ,put cover back on and then order a defrost heater and a defrost thermostat for your model number at searspartsdirect.com

Freezer compartment no longer cools. Continuous defrost cycle?

Good day,
Sounds more like the compressor trying to start and can't.
Pull the machine out, remove the rear cover and see if in fact the sound is coming from the compressor.

The freezer is not working properly. Measured temp at almost 40 deg. Have cleaned coils and vacumned fan grill. Some items are frozen, but newly added do not freeze.

Check for any frost on the inside, probably the back, of the freezer compartment. If there is any, either the defrost heater, defrost timer or defrost termination thermostat is bad. Need your model # to continue.

Freezer Not Defrosting

Hi Rusty...

There are 3 componants to most defrosting systems. The defrost heater, the defrost thermostat, and the defrost relay. First you must remove and store your perishables safely. Then remove the panels in the freezer compartment to expose the evaporator. The defrost heaters will be attached to the evaporator and will have wires extending from them. Using an ohmmeter, see if there is continuity across the heater. If not replace it. Find the wiring diagram on the back of the unit and check for voltage into and out of the defrost relay. All of these items should be availible from a local refrigeration supply facilitiy.

Freezer will keep ice frozen but not freeze food items completely. Food compartment is also not very cold.

Hi Jmhgirl,
Your refrigerator is haveing a problem in its defrost system. You have one or more of the following items bad on your refrigerator.
1. Defrost heater
2. Defrost thermostat
3. Defrost timer.
This problem will continue to get worse until your freshfood side will not be cool at all and the freezer will continue to freeze over.
To determine the one there are a few things that you can do to figure it out.
First remove everything from the freezer and look back inside the freezer. The inside backwall will be frosty looking and you will need to clear that frost away to remove the inside panel. You will also need to remove some shelves to get the panel off. You will have about 4 screws to remove then the panel will come off. Once inside you will have access to the coils and they will probably be frozen over. Defrost the ice with a hair dryer and look near the bottome for a heater element. If you have a multitester you can check continuity through the heater and replace if bad, If you do not have one then you may be able to unplug the heater and the defrost thermostat and take them to a local appliance repair shop and they can check them for you and sell you the new part if you need one. Or get you a multitester and dive in. If the heater is good and the defrost thermostat is good (the defrost thermostat is the small quarter sized disk in the freezer near the top of the coil with two wires going to it.)
Then you will most likely need a defrost thermostat.
Good luck and Im sure this will FixYa.

Leaking Freezer (top) on a GE TBX10 refrigerator

Your refrigerator is frosting up and your drain is freezing over. You will most likely need to defrost the coils in the freezer and the drain. Check the heater and defrost thermostat for continuity and replace if bad. If heater and defrost thermostat are both good you may need a defrost timer or control board.
Another item to consider is a defrost drain probe. This item attached to your heater and goes into the drain to keep it from freezing over. Good luck to you and I hope this helps you.
