Fliter queen repair

I have a new puppy who chewed the electrical cord on my filter queen that I have had about 20 years. Can this be fixed? If so, is it easy enough that I could fix it at home?

Hi there,
I generally don't like answering questions like this cause it could lead to unwanted problems. But I will say that if the individual wires are color-coded (each wire is a different color and can easily be determined which go to which) and you are handy with some electrical tape and know about how to make wires connect, then you may be able to do this yourself.

If you are NOT able to determine which wires go to which wire, I definitely do NOT recommend you trying to this yourself.

If it is obvious to you which wires go to which, splice them to clean edges, connect metal to metal, wrap two connecting wires tightly with electrical tape, then once all wires are wrapped to one another, bunch all together and wrap all with electrical tape. That's it.

It's fairly simple, but again, YOU MUST, I STRESS MUST be able to distinguish which wires match which wires from the detached (thanks to dear sweet puppy) wires. :) Bad puppy!

Hope this helps at least some. A good repair person shouldn't charge that much to do it for you.

Best, Jenn

For the Filter Queen. Buy the cord and install yourself. Take a pen and paper, write notes for each wire goes to where. Give yourself enough cord inside to wrap around the motor housing and secure with the cord grommet. Really not hard.

I am having the same problem On a filter queen 360 vaccum the electrical connection from the hose to the wand was loose and over time the electrical arcing burned up the female conector piece. This sounds to me like a manufacturing problem. The arcing is a fire hazard. Why aren't these problems being fixed for free. When will the recall come out?

Our puppy chewed through the cord on our Rainbow. we paid $45 to have the cord replaced, got it home and it still will not turn on. Any ideas? Thanks!

The service tech who replaced it didn't know what he/she was doing. That's my first guess. If it was working before the puppy chewed through the cord, then if the cord was replaced, it should work. That leads me to believe the cord wasn't installed correctly. Take it back and have them redo it, then make sure it works before leaving the shop.

How to replace electrical cord on Dyson ball vacuum cleaner. Our puppy chewed it.

Depending on where it has been chewed, you may not need to replace the whole of your cord. Ask your local electrical supplier, or possibly somewhere like B & Q, if they have an 'inline' plug and socket to repair your existing cord.this would resemble the type of plug and socket used to connectd the power chord to a lawnmower, except you would not be buying the sealed type. Then you could simply cut out the chewed part of your ccord, and fit the two new ends, one the plug and the other the socket. It is no more difficlt than fitting a new domestic 13 amp plug on a cable. It is also a safe but much cheaper solution, so you should save money too.

Electrical cord

It has a **** shell like closure on the inside and can normally be popped out by squeezing with pliers. It will have a slightly oval appearance, you must squeeze it round and pull.

My puppy chewed the cord to my dyson, is it easy to fix?

Very easy, if you don't care how pretty it is. All you need is a sharp knife and some electrical tape. Use the knife on each end of the cord to expose 1/2" of copper wiring, twist them together, cover each wire separately with tape, then wrap several turns of tape around the whole thing.

Is there a Johnstone Supply in your area? How about an ACE Hardware. A vacum repair place? Sewing machine repair place?

If you have the data, ACE or Johnstone should be able to help you. Don't discount other electrical supply places. You will not get help at a big box place.

When I Googled "Filter Queen parts", I found lots of places on the WWW. There must be something close to you.

Give it a try. Let me know if this works for you.

My puppy chewed on the cord; i can purchase a cord but how do I replace it

You'd want the repair dealer to replace the cord, they're authorized and trained to do it - there's electricity involved and you don't want to make a mistake, it'll void the warranty of your machine (if you still have one) but more than that, you can cause serious harm to yourself. Call the Dyson helpline, they'll find the closest authorized repair dealer in your area to you.
