Hi! Usually when it takes some time for display to appear is the monitor is faulty itself. It will run but take some time for the display to appear. You will just have to wait for its break point before replacing it. Try swapping the monitor if it still performs the same. If it is, then we are facing a video card problem. You may stop worrying bout the monitor, just replace the video card. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Before replacing the monitor please borrow a monitor from a friend so that we will know if its a video card or a monitor problem though its most likely a monitor issue. Lets just try this for you to save some money. Once you borrowed a monitor i'll walk you thru. If its a monitor problem you dont have to replace the video card.

Alright... then its a monitor problem. If you can tolerate the performance then fine, atleast we can save the money till the day it reaches its break point.

the problem might not be from the monitor, it might be from the computer. If the computer does not boot, there won't be signal on the monitor.

Sometimes, the computer VGA may be failing, and won't be signal on the monitor.

I would advice that you test the monitor on another computer and see if it will do the same.

If it does the same, then it means the monitor has develop a fault and needs to be serviced. In this case, you will have to take it to a repairman to fix the fault for you.

Take care.

thanx for the quick response. No problem with the boot-up. The monitor seems to be hit or miss (more miss lately). My other computer is a laptop. Can I try the monitor with the laptop?

Yes, its possible. You can try the monitor with your laptop.

I hooked the monitor into my laptop and it came up quicker. And it came right on after sleep mode. So it's obviously something with the computer. What to do?

AMW 19" LCD Monitor

go to NVDIA web site download the latest driver.
you need at least 32bit color to setup the monitor.
the 8-bit color is a default, that is why the monitor alway return to default size which is 800x600.
19" monitor should have minimum of 1280x1024 with 32 color.
don't up the color 256bit. the color will be off on the monitor.

When I select sleep or hibernate mode - the monitor stays black...

Hit the keyboard keys. It is better to just turn sleep and hibernate off and just use a screen saver or tun it off.
