Question about RCA HD52W59 HDTV Projection Television

2 Answers

My RCA SCENIUM HD65W20 TV would not turn on. No power. I opened the back and found the 6A 125v fuse next to the power cord blown. I replaced it and connected the power cord to the tv and the fuse blew again. I once again replaced the fuse, but this time I connected the power cord to the tv first and then connected it to the wall outlet and the fuse again blew. It seems there is some short somewhere. Please advise.

If the main fuse is blowing then it is most likely due to the surge from the outlet itself. As you may know power coming from the outlet first passes through the 6A fuse that you have mentioned. A voltage stabilizer may also help your cause.

Hello,

There is no short anywhere in the television.

The reason the fuse keeps blowing up is simply because the power supply is too high for it to regulate. Then the fuse will continue to blow as long as it is still being plugged to that same power source.

Get a stepdown or a stabilizer and connect the television to it, do not plug you television to a direct power source. Make sure the television is unplugged and turned off when you are fixing the fuse, then you should plug it to a stabilizer or stepdown first before turning it on after fixing it.

Also you need to ensure that the fuse you are fixing in it is also a 6A 125v fuse.

You can also try a fuse with a higher Amp and Volt.

Ensure there is no form of partial contact when you are fixing the fuse back in it.

Secure also that the power chord is intact and is not having any form of partial contact in it. After plugging the cord, check if it is hot, then you can detect if it is faulty and needs replacement.

Take care

Thank you for your input. The TV has been off since November and when I disconnected the power cord today before starting to work on it, the cord was not warm or hot. Also, all I've used is a 6A 125V fuse. So you say that once I replace the fuse, to connect the TV's power cord to a stepdown transformer so that the fuse can regulate. How soon would I be able to connect the TV back to the normal power source without the fuse blowing? When you say to make sure that the fuse or power cord do not make any partial contact, contact with what? I have to use a long tweezer to try and squeeze the fuse into the uncomfortable position where it's connection is and many times it slips off onto the baseboard. It's not that easy. I have to go out and buy some more fuses since I only had two which blew out. Thanks again for your help and take care.

If this is a DLP set, which I suspect it is....you need a new color wheel. Common problem for these sets. If you don't have an extended service plan, about a 300--400 fix, in home.

Panasonic ct-32sl13g blowing fuse by power supply

You will need to remove the back of the TV. Don't worry, it's not that bad.

There are 4 screws across the top, one on each side, one right next to where the power cord goes into the back of the case, and the two more by all of the video connections **These are the most important to remove because they attach the main board to the back of the case.

Once you have remove the screws then the entire back of the set will slide off. If you look where the power cord attaches to the board you will see a small fuse. This is a 6.3 Amp 125 volt fuse. You can replace it with a 6.3 Amp 250 volt fuse from your local Radio Shack. A four pack costs between $3 and $5.

Make sure that you check that it works before putting it all back together. Check for any loose connection cables while you're back there. I found a few when I did this.

Good luck!

RCA 42in. Projection TV will not turn on.

check the fuse on the Main filter board ( The board where the power cord attaches to) as that fuse can often be blown and that will cause the set to be completely dead.

No Power on rt2580

According the parts list on the model unit your fuse is suppose to be F101,FUSE 6A 125V. Is it possible that you have an undersized fuse?

I don't believe that one amp differents would cause your unit to blow like that but, you never know. More than likely you have a bad component in the power supply or power amp.

Then again, with an average replacement cost of $150 online; it not worth getting too deep into the repairs.

If you're NOT still under warrantee you should at least open the TV and look for a blown fuse near where the power cable enters the set. A lot of times you can buy replacement fuses at a local electronic or hardware store and they're easy to replace. Check the fuse. If it is blown, it will be obvious and make sure that the set is unplugged before replacing it. If it blows again, or if it is not blown, your problem is probably in the 'X' volt regulator and you will need professional help with the repairs. You can also check the board where the components are mounted and resoled any that look bad. Brief power outages may cause the TV to turn off on its own. If you are using a surge protector, try connecting the set directly to the wall outlet. In your case it could caused by a blown fuse, a leaky diodes or a bad solder joint at the horizontal drive transformer. All can be replaced at a local electronic or hardware store and they're easy to replace If this does not correct the problem, you may need to have your TV serviced. good luck!
