Blown caps destroys other components on the circuit that is why after you replace the capacitor the inverter don't work so better check for open resistors near the capacitors that you have replaced and also the transistors on it.replace any defective resistors and transistors along the pathway of the capacitors.or you can order a new inverter board because the inverter transformer in the circuit might be defective that cause the capacitor to blow..check this link to order a n inverter board.thanx and good luck! hope i helped you

pls rate my help tnx.

may i add, check also the input voltage which is 24 volts dc input voltage of the inverter board.check the connection the of the voltage supply from the 24v output of power supply..If no voltage is present check the fuses and the power supply itself..

  • hitech_repai Jul 12, 2010

The power supply it uses is an external PS which is a 12v dc. When I checked voltage on the inverter recieves only about 5v for about one second and then goes off, it is only when the backlihgt comes on. I also checked the PS itself and is working fine.

there are instances in a power supply that its supply output is stable but when a load is loaded to the out put of the power supply the voltage output drops! There is a problem on the power supply in this case.2nd is the inverter itself might have a shorted components probably the inverter transformer might have an unstable resistance...better compare the resistance of each transformer...all of them should have equal reading...

This circuit board runs off 24 volts. There is usually a small surface mount fuse on this board, it may have blown when that caps went out. You can check it with an ohm meter, 0 ohms = good, infinite ohms = bad. It will look like this

I have a Memorex MT1701 - ab6230a.jpg

You can only check it with an ohm/multi meter
If this is not blown, I would check for the 24 volts running to the inverter. If this is not present, check the power supply for issues, if it is present, then it should work. There is also a backlight on signal (usually labeled bl_on or something simmilar) it will be 5 volts telling the backlight to come up. If this is not present, the main board may be an issue.. but all this is rare - you had blown caps, try checking that fuse or 24volts.. if that doesn't get you anywhere, you probably need a new inverter board, these don't go out too often so you can get them quite cheap used on ebay or somewhere on the internet. Let me know what you find, we can fix this. If you don't have an ohm meter, you can buy one at sears or radioshack for like $10-20.
If you don't want to do that, you could just try ordering a new inverter, that would be a high probability of success. Keep in touch, you can get it going!

Is that IC you replaced on the inverter board?
If so, I would try to get the whole board, look for numbers on it and run them in ebay and google to find a part number.. most of those fail rarely and you can get the board for 20-30$
Thats my best advise from here..
you can try to get it to hold on by defeating the shutdown lines or holding up the P_ON line with a 5 volt source from elsewhere, but thats getting into tricky stuff. In theory, you can hold it on and not let it shut down and see if the backlight stays up.
I've known those transformers to go bad, you can take an O-scope and just put the test lead near (not attached! ) to the output of the transformer. You will see a spike up (this is rf magnetic pick up, remember you're not tapped into the HIGH VOLTAGE, just picking up the magnetic noise) on all the good transformers, but the one that is bad will have a way smaller or non existent magnetic spike. You have to keep trying to kick it on and check each one, but you can narrow it down to a bad transformer this way, then get one from like shopjimmy.com or someplace... but the part will end up costing you most of what you may be able to get the whole board for. Just some ideas, best of luck

You may have power supply or backlights inverter problem, or worst case will be the lamps.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). Desk top appears for short second and then screen goes black, turn off monitor and restart desk top again shows for short second and then goes black. First started in the Windows Live Mail screen.

First, does it do the same when used with another PC?

You will need to 1) inspect the DC filter caps for any of them with domed tops, 2)then check the DC voltages as shown, 3) You need inverter tester (lamp assemblies to find out if the lamps or the inverter board is bad).

It does the same when attached to another PC? Any error message on the screen?
More likely to have power supply/inverter failure. First thing to look for will be the bad DC filter caps with domed tops.

The Screen comes on for 1 second then goes black but you can still faintly see the image on the screen

It can be as simple as bad DC filter caps (leaking/bulging tops), that will be the first thing to look for, it can be more serious problem in the inverter circuits or bad CCFL assemblies.
