There was no problem with the tv this morning, but this afternoon when I turned it on, there is no sound. I tried unplugging it and checking all of the cable connections but still no sound. Any suggestions?

Re: Proscan 36 inch lost sound
Check to see that the set is not in the SAP mode, or if the sound is muted, or of the speaker option is turned to OFF. You should find all of these functions in the user setup menus. Refer to the operation manual for details.
If there is still not sound, see if you have the sound from one of the A/V inputs, or if from the tuner. If it is missing from the tuner section, then the failure can be in the IF or sound decoder, or the input select switch circuit section.
If the loss of sound is from the A/V input but you have sound from the tuner, then the problem can be from the input select circuit, or probably from the Audio side of the input amp section.
If there is no sound at all, then the sound fault may be from the audio output section, or something along the patch back to the input control switch circuit.
The last thing it can be is corruption in the firmway program that is contained in the EPROM of the set.
If the problem is not a user fault, the set will require shop service to correct the fault.

You most likely have a horizontal and/or a high voltage issue. These sets are famous for this problem. If the picture was still good before it went out, it is probably worth getting checked out. Thanks
Mike-It looks like the power supply is going on your tv-it can be replaced. This happens, usually, when little kids are playing wth the remote or power button on the tv. Turn it off and on a whole bunch of times in a row, kids love to do that, and it burns out the power supply part- to make a CRT tv like your RCA36 incher- which is a beautiful machine- I have the RCA/PROSCAN 36 incher-LAST longer...You should always wait 5 min between turning it off and on. Don't ever sell it. This one is worth fixing. It has better color and sound Than the new plasmas and lcds-The Pros know this. Be carefull, they might try and talk you out of it-so they can fix it and have it for themselves. So what if it's not High Deff. It's a great set.
this is a very common problem just unplug tv for 5 minutes it
should fix it . simple fix most of the time with rca and proscan.
If that does not do it go into menu scroll down to audio and then press on .
The spark the you see means that your wall socket is loose. Have it fixed by a qualified technician. With regards to your unit, it has an internal problem. In my experience, the power supply is not dissipating power to the circuitry. The problem is contained in the power supply, have it checked by a technician.
