Question about Health & Beauty

The joystick is too small. My mom's hand gets cramped using it. I know she needs to learn to relax her hand but I was thinking of drilling a hole in a rubber ball to slip over the existing joystick.

You can also use foam and contact cement. As long as it can return to center and can freely move you can use anything.

If it is too heavy for eample it won't want to center and the chair could not want to stop or exhibit wierd controls. So lead and concrete probably aren't what you want to use. ;-]

I did one and used an old pc joystick handle with a thin layer of foam. Got it from a thrift shop for $1. The handle was great as it had a rest so it was more comfortable to use. That was for my dad and he had trouble grabbing the thin pencil like stick that was stock. I don't know how your moms hand rests on the stick but if you pay attention to that and then give her a nice handle to grip you can really improve it and make life easier for her.

How do you drill through ceramic tile

Go to Lowes, Home Depot, Menards or reasonably good Hardware store. buy a ceramic bit. They are usually with the wood, steel and concrete bits. Small bits arent to pricy. If you need a larger hole like the on the shower pipe goes through, you will need a ceramic hole saw. Hole saws are coated with diamond chips and will probably cost $40 or more. good Luck

I am trying to drill through old encyclopedias, but the drill bits keep snapping in the pages. What type of drill bit can I put on an hand-held drill that will get through the books without breaking?

rx-dk-diy054036_wood-drill-bits_s4x3_lg.jpgI've used 'regular' high speed drill bits for paper, and wood boring bits. I think the wood bits work better, but whatever bit is used the drill flutes have to be cleared out of material. This is done by drilling a little bit at a time and then lifting the drill out of the hole to clear the hole and the drill of shavings. This is essential to do to minimize heat buildup and binding of the drill bit. The drill bit should not break if you take it nice and easy, and drill in small increments .

I have a jeep liberty05 and my oil pan drain plug was put in by last owner so tightly i had to use an irwin east out in doin so with my impact the inside threade piece that the plug screws into broke off...

YOU NEED TO BUY CORRECT SIZE NEW OIL DRAIN PLUG. YOU TO KNOW YOUR THREAD SIZE ON NEW OIL DRAIN BECAUSE YOU NEED THE RIGHT TAP AND DRILL BIT TO CENTER DRILL THE BROKE BOLT IN SIDE OIL PAN YOU NEED A CENTER PUNCH TO PUNCH A SMALL ENOUGH TO START THE DRILL BIT DEAD CENTER OF BROKE BOLT.OIL PAN NEED TO BE REMOVED TO DRILL HOLE STRAIGHT.THIS IN NOT A EASY JOB.EITHER YOU REPAIR OR DAMAGED OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG HOLE. YOU DRILL BIT HAS TO STRAIGHT WHILE DRILLING HOLE DEAD CENTER OF BROKEN BOLT YOU NEED TO MEASURE LENGHT OF OIL DRAIN PLUG BOLT. THEN USE A PIECE TAPE ON DRILL BIT WRAP A PIECE TAPE AROUND DRILL BIT THE DEPT YOU NEED TO DRILL THROUGH BOLT. LIKE I SAY THIS JOB TAKE SKILL AND A STRAIGHT HAND. BECAREFUL WITH DRILL AND WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES. DONT DO THIS FIX IF YOU NOT SURE OF MECHANIC SKILLS YOU WILL EITHER DAMAGE THE OIL PAN OR FIX THE PROBLEM.

Yesterday I bought a fabulous, old Hand drill. It is a "Defiance by Stanley" model # 1221. I unscrewed the chuck, put in a bit, and drilled several small holes. Today when I tried to change...

Yes. Often these egg beater hand drills have rusted a bit from non-use. Use a good penetrating oil and work it back and forth.

I need to remove the ignition cylinder but, i cannot get the key to turn to the "acc" position, so i cannot perform the straight forward method

in order for you to get the ignition out you are going to have to drill a small hole in the housing and press in the retaining pin manually. it will be hard for me to describe the exact drill point to you with words, but if you have the new ignition switch in your hand you will see where the pin is and you can estimate where on the housing to drill the hole. as soon as the hole is drilled - take a small metal punch and you will need to smack the pin up into the old switch,, this will allow you to remove the old ignition. now when you are putting the new ignition in, before you do you will need to use a flat blade screw driver and turn the inside gear to the accessory position so when you slide the ignition into place everything lines up right.

ProTech Drill Press

Sounds like you already have it figured out. Drill a round hole first then use a small square file to make the correct sized square. Depending on what the sheared piece looked like, you can find some square stock at the hardware store.

Drill hole in China Plate

Normally you would use a masonry bit to drill into ceramics eg tiles or bricks. if the plate is glazed it is better to stick some masking tape or adhesive backed paper on the area to be drilled to stop the drill bit slipping around. also i would be inclined to use a hand turned drill or a small battery powered drill if you have one to avoid breakage of the plate.
