Question about Honeywell Programmable Thermostat Heater
Posted by Anonymous on
This problem is more than likely not the thermostat at all. The best way to see if the thermostat is at fault, is to pull the cover off and you should see a R(Red) terminal and a Y(Yellow) terminal, carefully jumper the two wires together and see if the outside unit comes on. If not, then the problem doesn't lay in the thermostat. You can also jumper the R and G terminals and see if the fan blower motor on the indoor unit comes on if you don't have another person to help. The thermostat is just a switch board for your controls on the inside unit and outside condensing unit. It is all 24v wiring coming from the unit and supplying the power to the correct terminals on the thermostat. Unfortunately, if your problem is not the thermostat, you can have a number of different problems going on. A few places to look.....
1. Breaker box to make sure nothing has tripped.
2. Make sure your indoor unit is still coming on.
3. Outside disconnect box. It will be by the condenser and should have fuses in it (some do not). To check, you will need to ohm the fuses. IMPORTANT: If fuses are blown, you could have a short in the condensing unit which should be checked first before changing fuses.
Hope this helps some and good luck!
