Question about U-Line Icemaker

2 Answers

I have a U-Line BI-98 ice maker. On startup it makes one cycle of ice and the compressor shuts off but the icemaker continues to run through a fill and eject cycle over and over and the compressor never comes back on.

I read these customer comments on submarine.com:

DAlter 08-18-2009, 12:52 PM I have the same model and the windings in the compressor shorted out on me a few weeks ago. U-line can supply you with a troubleshoot guide and electrical diagrams. You can buy a new compressor at repairclinic.com. However, check with U-line...if the unit is less then five years old the compressor replacement (parts and labor) are covered under warranty. You don't need a sales receipt..they can look up the shipping date from their factory by the serial number. I got lucky....made it by a few months. MikeP 08-18-2009, 01:10 PM Mine quit working last year - turned out it the fan that blows air across the little "radiator" had failed The overheat would cause the compressor to shut down and sometimes to blow the breaker. The fan was 35 bucks and after replacement the 30 year old Uline is working perfectly. Just check all possibilities before condemning the compressor and facing an expensive replacement.

Sounds like the coil fan might be bad. Good luck, and hope this helps.

Hi,

first , pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If if freezes , and dumps , replace the water valve. If it does not dump the cubes , replace the ice maker. After pouring the water into the ice maker , remove the bottom kick panel , and clean the bottom coils , of dust , lint , pet hair , etc , as this will raise the freezer temp .

An ice maker has to be 5 degrees , to operate , correctly . it should work well after cleaning the coil. If not, you will have to replace the coil

Take care

My BI98 u-line ice machine won't stop making ice even with bin arm up.

I would suspect the switch controlled by the tray full sensing arm/bail. That's kind of like the main power switch for the ice maker. You can remove the outer cover from the ice maker with the power unplugged! Then look at the mechanical operation of that lever as it relates to the switch. The lever should cause the switch to open and shut off the timer motor. Some times you can buy the timer separately otherwise you replace the whole icemaker. Don't forget to remove power and turn off the water before you remove the old icemaker.

It does sound as if you may need a new ice maker. Other than that does the compressor come on to keep the ice cold? If so is it making any type of noises beyond the typical hum?

Ice maker runs through cycles but water never

you have a problem with the sealed system it sounds like. either a freon leak or bad compressor.

Will not get cold. the compressor isrunning all the time and will not make ICE. It has a brand new ice maker unit in it, thermostat, and watervalve from last year.

A BI 95 will run until the thermostat is satisfied. The it closes contacts between red and yellow to advance icemaker. Make sure thermostat is set at a warmer temperature. 10-15 degrees is what your looking for in the bucket. After you turn it down and it doesnt cycle then make sure it wires right. Red terminal 1 yellow terminal 2 blue/black terminal3 Or it could be to warm (heavy frost needs defrosting) If everything is running and not cooling then a sealed system is expected. Also make sure you have the right icemaker if not then that could cause everything. Sensor needs to be in the tube about 12 inches.

Uline icemaker compressor runs very hot - slow ice production

if the ice production is slow first try to set it on a warmer temperature. Now if its frosted up then you will need to defrost it. Also check the fan to see if its running. if yes is the condensor clean? If yes then check temperature in bucket. 10 to 15 degrees is ideal for this model.

Give-me plis a wiring digram manual of the Ice Maker U-Line BI-95

Your going to call U-line and ask for it. 800-779-2547. Now what are you trying to do? I can give you the wires on the thermostat. Terminal 1 is red(icemaker) Terminal 2 is yellow(common) Terminal 3 is blue/black(compressor and cond fan motor) When yellow and blue or black are closed this will run the compressor and fan.Thermostat is satisfied then the red and yellow are closed and it advances the icemaker. Ejector blade at the 12 oclock calls for freeze cycle. at 2 calls for heater to come on(inside icamaker) at 10 oclock it trios the water switch and calls for water. Then back at 12 oclock calls for freeze cycle. Temps should be 10-15 degrees in the bucket. Warmer the setting the more ice it makes.

U-Line BI-45A won't run

check the wiring diagram at the back panel. trace each component.

you could have disconnected one or two wires while replacing the fan, check the thermostat control. see if there is continuity. check the wirings also that went there.
