It, did not turn your pool green. The pool was ready to turn green before you installed the intex system.
before having the system did you regularly use stabilizer? non foaming algecide? How long do you filter? There are so many variables. I will try to make it as easy as possible

We will address the salt system last right now you need to get your pool back to normal
Start by shocking it with 1-2 gallons of liquid chlorine let filter run during this time to stir it up
after 12 hours you need to brush the sides and bottom and then let settle
Now vaccum and then clean your cartridge with a strong blast from the garden hose
Start filtering again and at this point add the non foaming algaecide
the next day brush again and let settle vaccum again clean the filter again and continue this until the pool is clear

once it is clear you will want to use the algaecide once every 5-7 days.

Now a little fyi
Intex filters can not support the gl ph that is needed to keep a pool clean and crystal clear. All of there pumps are under rated for the gallon of pool that is sold with it

A pool needs to be turned over at LEAST 3 times in a 12 hour period
I will use generic #'s
If you have a 5000 gl pool and a 2500 gallon pump that is 6 hours minimum filtering time you do the math for your pool

You should also run the pump continuous. It is the only way to really filter efficiently with an intex pump

now for your generator
Although a good concept it is really a waste of money.
All the salt system does for you is to make it so you do not need to add liquid chlorine or tablets but you still need to add chemicals as mentioned above

get a test kit for salt water the ones that read #'s not color
get the salt to 3000ppm no lower than 2700 or you will not be able to produce enough sanitizer and any more than 3800 and the water tastes terrible and will usually trigger an alarm for high salt
once your pool is clear shoot for this

now to maintain it

Although you may be told otherwise this is what has worked for me for this being the 4th season with no green ever

I filter 24/7 with generating chlorine any where from 4-12 hours depending on the day.
chlorine consumption is created by many factors # of bathers heat sun rain people sneaking in with sun tan oil and so on you will need to figure out what is best for your situation
Dont forget to get a good stabilizer to help with holding the amount of chlorine in the pool usually about a pound per 5000 gl
as mentioned I also use the non foaming algaecide just follow the directions for your gl pool
I also use a water clarifyer that turns minute particles into larger particals that the filter can actually catch
and even though the filter may not look dirty clean it every day.
I use 2 one in the unit and one drying
Spray it out hard and let it dry overnight

Dont ask me why or how but a filter that is dry from the start filters better than a wet one put back in right away

Had you been doing all of this since you opened the pool the addition of the salt system would have worked fine

Good luck

Maybe kitkat1967 didn't appreciate the advice, but I sure do. I will be starting up my pool within the next two months and I want to make sure I have everything I need to get started. I also want to make sure that I start off on the right foot and continue to have a clean pool. I truly appreciate your comments as I have been struggling to keep my intex pool clear year after year.

My one question is "Do you have an intex salt water system"? You certainly are do something right to have no green in your pool for four seasons now.

Thanks for the info and I will be taking your advice.

Do you think the liquid chlorine is safe to use with the cs8111 saltwater system? The manual states that a different type of chlorine should be used, but I'm sure the liquid works far better. I have some concern over damaging the cell. What do you think? Many thanks.

Do I hook up just the pool filter for 24 hours and then hook the intex salt walter filter onto the pump?

When you are opening the pool each year or for the 1st time, you hook up the filter pump and than the Salt System before you start filtering the salt... Eventhough you filter the freshly added Salt into the pool for the 1st 24hrs, it can run through the salt system, just don't turn it on like you mentioned... The trick is once you start running the salt system is to get the chlorine levels up as quick as you can... I have not mastered this yet after 3 years but I will consult my Local Pool Chemical Supplier next year before opening the pool... So I think you should do the same...

Good Luck...

Just purchased and installed Intex salt water system. It shows low flow and now, after 5 days of installment, the water is completely green (expecting Swam Thing to come out!) I need your guidance to...

Seems like you may not have the pump and the salt chlorinator in sync... If your water is dark green and not a big pool, you may want to drain and refill, if you have a large pool, you may want to shock and then try the following...
1.Make sure you have added the correct amount of salt...
2.Set your timer for your pump for 12 hrs.
3.Wait 15 minutes and then turn on your intex salt water system..
4.Set you hrs of operation on your salt water system for 10 to 11 hrs...
5.After running the system for 3 days, check your chlorine level..

If water clears and chlorine level is high, adjust the time.. You will have to re-sync the pump and chlorinator.. If the pump turns off before the chlorinator finishes it's cycle, you will get a "LOW FLOW" alarm..
I hope this helps and good luck.. Please rate and comment on the information provided.

I have a 15x 42" intex metal frame pool an i also

Most likely you are not. The manual is very conservative!!! I have a 14000 gallon pool and I run my intex salt system during the summer at 10 to 12 hrs pump and 8 to 10 hrs chlorination in between those 12 hrs and my pool stays very clear. But..... If you don't clean the unit and let it alarm for low flow, low salt or not run the unit log enough, you WILL HAVE GREEN WATER!!!
Hope this helps, If it does, please rate the tip!

Recently installed Intex saltwater system, all of a sudden, have green forming around walls of pool. All levels look okay; except chlorine is a little low and PH is very high...I ran the boost cycle last...

Once you get the "Green" stuff on the walls, you must brush it off.. and one boost cycle will not do.... Make sure you have the correct salt level!!! Keep in mind..big pools can take up to 350 lbs of salt... Now...set you pump at 12 hrs and you chlorinator at 10 hrs between those 12 hrs.. Run this cycle and you should see results within 2 to 3 days... Clean you filter and rinse your electrolytic cell after 3 days because you will have dead algae. After the water turns clear, you can then lower your cycle to 10 pump and 8 chlorinate.. Good luck! hope this helps!
