Exponents of 10 are entered by pressing [2nd][X^-1] (EE).

For powers of any base, enter the base, press the [^] (below PI) then enter exponent. Use the (-) white key if exponent is negative.

Depending on your version of the TI-30, you will either find a button with a y to the exponent of x or a button that is the carot (^) sign. you would type (1.0075)^(-240), where ^ is the appropriate button (y^x or just ^).

The same way you type in a negative number. Make sure you use the (-) key just to the right of the decimal point key to enter a negative sign, not the - key you use for subtraction.

You cannot use a letter as an exponent, unless you stored a numerical value in memory B (EX: 3 [STO>] [ALPHA] B stores value 3 in B)

For any numerical value of exponent ( positive, negative, integer, fraction, what have you) you use the general power key, marked with a caret [^] under the [CLEAR] key.

Example: To enter 15 to power 5

Type in 15

Press [^] key

Type in the value of the exponent (5) and press [ENTER]

You get 759375 as result.

You're not raising a negative number to an exponent, you're negating a number raised to an exponent.

If you want to raise -2 to the second power, you need to enter it as

( (-) 2 ) ^ 2

Without the parens, what you're getting is the equivalent of -(2^x)

You have a key labeled [Y to the x], use it for all the powers or roots that do not have a dedicated key or key sequence. Let the key be [^]

Ex: 13.675 to the power 1.33 is entered as 13.675 [^] (1.33) [=].

The result is 32.41778634

Ex: (-64)[^](2/3) [=] gives 16 as result. The (-) is the change sign key

Ex: (2.87655)^(-6.778) is entered as 2.87655 [^] ( (-) 6.778 ) [=] 0.0007758

The (-) is the change sign (or the negative of), not the regular minus. When you have a negative exponent or a complicated exponent, it is safer to enclose the whole exponent inside parentheses.

You must put all negative numbers in Parenthesis otherwise your calculator is not squaring the negative .
