I Have a Philips LCD TV model#30PF9946D/37. Recently the picture disappeared and only sound and can change chanels too. I was told I need to repair the power supply! Can I change It my self ??? I read it's...

Oh yeah, you can most certainly change the power supply by yourself.

It's easy to locate - just follow the power cable - and easy to replace.

Only make sure to let it discharge before you operate it. 10-15 minutes disconnected from power should do.

However, there's no guarantee that the problem is in the power board.

There is a very good chance it is, in fact, not there.

There's another board which commonly fails on many plasma TVs and the effect is exactly as you describe. It's called Y-Sustain board and you can tell which one it is by looking at the side of your TV and seeing which large board has manny plastic connections that enter the display on the side.

That board often has one or two fuses on it - I'd check those first.

I have a Philips 30PF9946D/37 no picture

what you have is a bad inverter transformer on the inverter board. I nashed my teeth on this problem for a long time because no diagram is avail. Here's the fix for you:

Remove the invertor board. Take an Ohm meter and measure the outer 4 legs of each transformer. Between pins 1 and 4 (side with the white dot near leg 1) you should read .3 ohms. This side is usually good. Between pins 5 and 8 you should read approx 1.8 to 1.9Kohms. ANYTHING above that is a defective transformer. I'm sorry I do not have the part number for this, I've just been using an old board from a set with a cracked panel. If I can find a part number I will try to post. You can try Encompass parts on the web, they may be able to supply part number and transformer with location number.

Philips FlatTV Black Screen 30PF9946D/37

I have the same problem and was told by my local TV repair shop I needed a new LCD panel (at $2000!!!) which I don't believe for a moment since the panels themselves rarely fail. After digging around on the net, I came across a posting from "Arfa Daily" on the website which points to either the backlight inverter board or the power supply. So far, it is the only intelligent thing I've found that makes any sense. If anyone follows this up and sucessfuly repairs your set, please let me know! ....Acepayday

I will re-post his/her answer here but to read it yourself goto:

Hello! I have a Philips 30PF9946D/37 30" LCD that no longer turns on.
Upon pressing the power button, the status LED goes from green to
amber then to red.

Is this a common problem with these?

Thank you!
Could be ps board.

It's a common problem with all LCD TV sets. First, try unplugging the
display panel's backlight inverter board. It is very common for these to
fail and cause the set to revert to standby. Otherwise, it's most likely
that the PSU itself is faulty - also very common.

Examine it *very* carefully for bulged electrolytics on the secondary side.
Note that these may be 'hiding' under bits of heatsink, so look carefully.
Also, check all large and heatsink-mounted devices, for bad (lead-free !!)
joints, which is another common cause of your described symptoms. Other than
this, you're a bit 'on your own' with LCD sets. There are other possible
causes, such as bad sound output chips, but if you really do have a power
supply problem that's not one of the things described, then you will
struggle to get to the bottom of it without schematics, and an intimate
knowledge of switchmode power supplies. These LCD ones are infested with
monitoring circuitry for output voltages and over-current conditions, and
they all work on the standby supply, so if *any* unexpected condition is
detected either at startup, or during use, the standby supply is momentarily
stopped, which causes the system control micro to reset back to its 'sleep'
condition, removing the 'power on' signal to the power supply. Depending on
the set, that may then be an end to it until you try to bring it out of
standby again, or it may just keep trying on its own, causing a flashing
power light.

If you can prove which board is causing the trouble, you might want to
consider just replacing that board. PSUs and inverters for many sets, can be
found astonishlingly cheap on the 'net and e-bay sometimes.

HDMI quit working I use this tv for a PC monitor, HD satellite viewing, and XBOX 360. I was having intermittent problems with the HDMI audio bleeding in to the other inputs. Sometimes if for instance I turned on the PC, I could hear the audio from the HDMI output on the satellite receiver through the TV speakers. Other times, I might just hear a crackle in the audio when in PC mode. If I switched back and forth between HDMI and PC inputs a couple of times, both issues would go away. I tell this just as background to what happened next. Since I have my PC hooked to the VGA input on the TV, I have been forced to manually switch the HDMI input from the Satellite receiver to my XBOX 360. (Sorry, I was too cheap to buy the $100 switch). Anyway, I usuall make this switch hot (TV on, Satellite receiver on, but XBOX off. This system although a pain, was working until yesterday. I was watching HD satellite, when I decided to play XBOX. I switched the HDMI cable, but when I turned the XBOX on, it wouldn't start up. I immediately assumed my XBOX had crapped out , but when I switche the HDMI cable back to the satellite, the TV would not recognize the signal. I have since tried the XBOX and satellite on another tv with HDMI, and both still work fine. I am thinking that some sort of switch in the tv has gone out, but I don't know. Should I just junk this TV for a new 1080P? My problem with doing that is that I use PIP with the PC on one side, and HDMI on the other. This tv does that, but I can't find another tv that does.
