Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I "may" have a bad DVD player in my Sony dvp-cx985v unit. It seems to fail/digitize at the same point(time) on almost every DVD played. I've used a couple of DVD\CD cleaner products to see if exxcess lint or something may be interfering to no avail. Short of taking it apart, searching for an internet-based replacement, can anyone tell me if there's something else I can do, or even the model number of the DVD player inside so I can gauge if a replacement is even warranted. I've had the unit for over five years now, and despite most of the critics of the unit, I like it; It does what I need it to. Thanks for assistance. John

The laser/lens might be weak or dirty, but since you have tried using several DVD/CD cleaner and it still does the same, then it means the lens is weak and needs replacement.

The reason is that the laser/lens might have been in the player for quite a long time now and have served its purpose.

The solution to this problem is for you to get a replacement lens and install it in the DVD player.

All you have to do is to dismantle the player and replace the lens.
You only need the dvd model and you will be able to get the lens from any electronic parts sales store.

Its good to cherish ones electronics, most especially if it is an efficient unit.

Hope this solution is of help to you.

Take care

Sony remote RM-DX500 not working with Disc Explorer 400 DVP-CX985V, but does work with tv. How can I program it to work the dvd player?

There are 2 set's of command switch's for the dvd player, a 3 position command switch on the back side of the dvd player and another 3 position command switch on the inside of the remote right next to the batteries, easiest option is to remove batteries from remote and test each one of the 3 position switch's labeled 1,2 & 3 and test remote control.

Cannot Play message on a Sony DVP-CX995V

Probably dust in the reader/lens assembly.
Needs to be opened and cleaned.
Sony also has a firmware update for the unit.

Suddenly "cannot play this disk" on Sony DVD/CD..every DVD...CD's work!

I have the same problem. I have a 5 year warranty from the company I purchased the unit from. I am not sure if they will replace it or not. I am reluctant to buy another one with this known issue. We have enjoyed the unit for nearly 3 years with no issues.
