How to Change a Hotmail Account Password Two Methods:Changing a Password From Your AccountChanging a Forgotten Password or Recovering an Account
Outlook.com is the new name for Microsoft's web email service, formerly known as Hotmail and Windows Live Mail. If you have a Hotmail account, you can still access it through the Outlook.com website. You can change your password from your account settings or you can have your password reset if you can't remember it. If you don't have a recovery account associated with your Hotmail account, you will need to fill out a questionnaire so that Microsoft can verify your identity.

Verify your account (if necessary). You may be asked to verify your account if you are using a browser you don't normally use. Microsoft will send a code to your backup email address. If you don't have access to your backup email address, select "I don't have these anymore".

Click the "Change password" link. This is located under the "Password and security info" section of the Overview.

Enter in your current password, and then enter a new password. There are three fields in the "Change your password" page. The first is for your old password, and the second two are for your new password. You will need to enter the new password twice in order to confirm it. Click the Save button.
    • This password is your Microsoft account password. That means that anything else that uses a Microsoft account, such as Windows 8, SkyDrive, or Skype, will need to have the new password entered the next time you log in.
    • If you are worried about your account security, you can have Microsoft ask you to make you change your password every 72 hours. To enable this, check the box at the bottom of the page.

Open the.Outlook.com sign-in page. You can recover Hotmail passwords using the same method as recovering an Outlook password.
    • Hotmail accounts that were deactivated due to inactivity can be activated as long as it has been less than 365 days since your last login. If it has been over a year since you last logged in, your account and emails will be deleted and the name will become available for someone else to use.
    • Hotmail accounts that were manually deleted can be recovered for 30 days.

  • 670px-change-a-hotmail-account-password-step-13.jpg6
Choose how you want to receive your reset link. If you have another email address attached to your account, you can have the password reset link sent to that email address. If you don't, you can click the "I don't have any of these" option. This will open a questionnaire which will help Microsoft verify your identity.
  • 670px-change-a-hotmail-account-password-step-14.jpg7
Fill out the questionnaire if necessary. Enter in an email address that you can be reached at. Answer all of the questions provided to the best of your ability to help verify your account. Using the questionnaire can take up to 24 hours to receive a response. This is the only way to recover your account if you don't have a secondary email address.
    • Do not trust any site that claims to have a toll-free number to recover your account password. There is no number that you can call to recover your account.
  • 670px-change-a-hotmail-account-password-step-15.jpg8
Reset your password. When you get the password reset link, you will be allowed to enter in a new password. You will need to enter it twice in order for it to take effect. You can now use this new password to sign in to your Outlook account.[1]
    • This password is your Microsoft account password. That means that anything else that uses a Microsoft account, such as Windows 8, SkyDrive, or Skype, will need to have the new password entered the next time you log in.

Hi there! :) if you can't log in to your hotmail account you need to do this steps :)
Click your email link in Hotmail. Click on the words "Forgot Password" found under the sign on link. On the next page, there are two ways to reset your lost password, "Verify Information and Reset Password Online" or "Send Reset Instructions to my Email Address".
2.Answer the questions on the next page. This is the information you provided to Hotmail when you signed up for your account. Enter your country, state and zip code and the answer to your secret question.
3.Choose a new password. Make sure this is something you can remember but is hard for someone else to guess.
4.Ask Hotmail to send the password reset information to your email if you do not remember the answers to the secret question. An email will arrive at the alternate email address you provided during registration.
5.Open the email and click on the link. Follow the instructions to change your password.
6.Confirm your new Hotmail password by signing into your Hotmail account. Save your new password in a safe place
    hope it works :)

My hotmail account has apparently been hacked, so microsoft blocked it.i tried to unblock it by verifying some of the account info but i didn't remember all of the info so nothing happened.

This sounds fishy from the start. How would Microsoft know if someone hacked your email account? As far as I know, MS don't go around detecting hacked accounts and closing them down.
Secondly, what info were you verifying, where and to whom?
Sounds like you might have accidentally given all your personal details to a phishing scam email pretending to be from MS.
If you still have time, go to the hotmail website and click I cannot get access to my account and try to use the zecondary email address to retrieve your password. Failing that, you can maybe answer the secret question you setup.

I got the password you sent, now it's telling me I'm using the wrong email address. I only have one and it's the one I've had a long time - can't understand this.

if you have forgotten your name of a certain account they must have a utility for forgotten passwords and account names which can send you an email containing both user name and password
if they do not have this facility you might have to open another account
remembering to make a log of your user name and password

Hotmail they have a forgotten password link but you must have another email adress to send your forgotten password to
just open up another email acc at hotmail/live.com eg: lumpy9@live.com
in the right hand corner on the hotmail homepage you should see help center down in the bottom right hand corner tab click on that another page will open you should see another help center click on that again another page will open with account , calender , contacts, essentials ..........click on the account tab another page will open with if you have forgotten your password or are having trouble signing in yet another page will open get help with your password problem or signing in click on it you should see something like I forgot my password I know my password but am having trouble signing in I think someone else is using my hotmail account if you click forgot my password a reset your password option will open up with a reset your password with tab which requires your live id
Example: someone@example.com and a few characters/letters you have to type in click next you will have options to tick click in the first send me an email hope this helps
