In the bios is the setting to lock and unlock the "FN" key check that,,,if that doesnt work try system restore to go back to right before the point the calculator locked on the keyboard. To get to system restore click on start, then hover on all programs, then hover on accessories,a drop down box will appear, move curser over to system tools and go to system restore and follow prompts.only use system restore if he can remember the approx. date the calculator locked.Any programs and updates that have been installed since that day will be lost using system restore.

Sounds like you have num-lock turned on in the bios settings. turn off the laptop, turn it on and go into bios setup, usually thats the del key, or F2 key - once inside the bios settings, go through it and look for akeyboard num-lock setting and make sure it is set to disabled. If it was enabled then that was the problem, be sure you save any settings you change or you will have to do it again - hope this fixes your problem.

How do I switch from letters to number and calculator on my Dell keyboard Xp operating

Start, click Run, and type regedit to open the Windows registry editor.

In the registry, open the below folders.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Control Panel\
Keyboard\

Within the keyboard folder, you should have a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2. Below is the explanation of each of these values.

0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.

hope this helps

I have a Dell wireless keyboard with a Calculator-specific function key. It is no longer working after I had some repair work to remove a vicious virus. How can I restore the calculator key?

Try this. Go to the Start menu by clicking Start (Windows XP) or clicking the Windows icon in the bottom left of your screen (Windows 7). In the start menu, click Control Panel.
Inside the Control Panel, double click Device Manager.
Once you are in the Device Manager window, click the Plus symbol next to where it says Universal Serial Bus Devices. In the list of things that comes up, you should see one that says USB Keyboard or Wireless Keyboard, or something to that effect. Right click on that, then click Uninstall.
A new window will pop up. In that window, click Next 2 times. Then, click Finish.
Now, unplug the USB wireless receiver. Wait a few seconds, then plug the USB wireless receiver back in. When you plug it back in, it will act like it is the first time it is plugged in, and will reset all your settings. Give it a minute or two.
Hopefully, you can press the Calculator button and it should work. Hope this helps.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Keyboard locked in upper case

Hi,

Try reseating the key board.

Check whether the keys are stuck especially the shift, alt, caps lock.

Hav you spilled any liquid on the keyboad.

Try uninstalling any software you installed for the keyboard and remove it from Device Manager (Click Start-Run-Type devmgmt.msc and click OK).

Reboot and see if that helps anything. Also, check the right shift and make sure it isn't stuck and check the keyboard settings in the Control Panel

Update the keyboad software from the microsoft website.

Pleae mntion the model  number of the keyboard to help us know more about the keyboard.

You can try holding down function key and press f11.

Control Panel -> Regional and language settings -> Tab: Languages,
Button: Details, and add a US Keyboard.

Check this to know the functions

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b894513
