Your ohm load is probably too low.

The most likely culprit when an amp goes into protection mode is the power wiring. Check your ground wire, it should be solidly connected to the vehicle chassis in a paint-free location. Then check the live power wire and make sure it has a good connection. If that doesn't work, download the user manual from retrovo.com. That should help you to decode why the amp is in protect mode.

plug one at a time to check for a short on either the right or left channel. if both do it, then try another rca cable. if that does it too, then unplug your speaker outs and plug your rcas back in and check. get where i'm going with this. process of elimination. if nothing helps, then there's a short in your amp.

mines does the same i just think the amp is poorly made get it bench tested

when you hooked the amp up did you make sure your speakers were all in-phase positive to postive / etc.. a common issue with hi-power equiptment is grounding whatever input power supply gauge wire was used the ground has to be equalized, also if youre drawing too much on the amp (too much speaker/not enough amp ) this problem will continue till the amp cooks, check all phase, and if youre mono-bridging make sure this amp can be mono-bridgeable that would also send an amp into protection mode because its recognized as a short to positive-good luck

there are 2 reasons for it to be going into protect mode 1 is heat 2 is the load on it. if it is going into protect mode soon after it starts there is a problem with the speaker. if it is after it has been on for a while it is that the amp itself is overheating. hope this answers your question

Have you checked to see if your subs voice coils have shorted. That could cause the amp to heat up, on rare occasions the protection lights don't work. Rare, but possible.

If the amp is in protect mode, it probably has shorted output transistors. To eliminate other possible problems, read through the following page:

Sounds like there could be a short somewhere. Check to make sure that there aren't any (exposed/bare) wires touching each other or if there is a bare spot of wire touching something metal. Check both ends of all the wires. A speaker wire may have come lose and is shorting out against the frame or some other place. Usually if it goes straight into protection mode or you're popping fuses you have a short somewhere. I assume the capacitor you installed is somewhere on the power line, which would be for helping with
noise. You can also try disconnecting your amp from your stereo and see what happens but leave the speakers connected, you don't want to run the amp with out a load on it (the speakers). If your amp doesn't go into protection mode when the stereo is disconnected, then you have a problem with the stereo and not the amp, assuming you already checked for any possible shorts first.
