Why won't blades stay aligned?

Ok either the 2 screws that hold the blade to the clipper are loose or the adjusting lever on the side could be loose please check both.

P.S you must align blade before you tighten the screws.

The brand new gear lever on my oster a5 isnt moving the clipper blade

make sure the blade is clicked into place fully, secondly check to see if the blade is sitting further away from the clipper than usual, it could also be a stripped gear inside the clipper does the lever move when the blade is engaged?

My adjuster on my clippers wont stay still, everytime i cut on the clipper the adjuster on the side wiggles and moves to the top..how do i fix this

Take the upper blade off of the clipper, there will be four (4) screws which secure the adjustable part of the lever to the clipper. You can tighten these screws and that will control how much resistance you get when adjusting the lever.

Clippers will not cut my golden retrievers fur

have you had the blades sharpened by a professional company, you should be able to get around 25 cuts per blade if correctly sharpened. If you have what about the clippers try replacing the Lever which is located at the drive end and goes from side to side.

How to position the clipper blade while u sharpening?

Hi!
I'm not sure about the nature of you question. Firstly if you mean, position the comb (with the adjusting lever on your clipper because your blades wont work, then:)
1.
If you move the comb downwards using the lever on the side of your clipper you will get a shorter cut, if you move it forward you will get a slightly longer cut. If your clipper makes a horrible noise, I believe there is a plastic adjuster on the side that you adjust with a flat head screwdriver. This adjusts the springs inside the clipper which effects how central the cutter moves from side to side. Adjust this while the clipper is running. You want your blades to be as central as posssible. If they still do not work, you may need your blades sharpened. This costs £5.90 incl. VAT & Postage www.sheareaseltd.com You could send your clipper to them as well and ask them to re align your blades after sharpening and they'll just charge the extra postage. (extra £5)
Hope this helps!
2.
If you mean how to hold the clipper with the blade relative to what you are clipping. You need to hold the clipper so the teeth are not pointing into your project, but not pointing away from it either. Keep the comb parallel to your project. With human hair, cut against the grain, with an animal cut with the grain!
Hope This Helps!

Oster Blade 918-306 Size Texturing Fits Oster Classic 76 Clipper, Power Pro, Power-teq And Star-te: Oster class 76 clippers....had them for a week and...

70ca16d.jpg Hope this helps, this is a tongue guide, you hopefully recognise it on your blade. If they are not paralell, then adjust them with pliers, both need to be perfectly vertical. When you put it on the clippers push the latch in as you close the hinge.
If it still wobbles then the next fe wthings need checking
1. The hinge screws on the clipper are tight, located either side of the hinge on the clipper.
2. The drive lever may be worn, thats the maroon peice of plastic sticking up at the top of the clippers, it moves from side to side when clippers are running.
3. If all seems fine up to now, your clipper should be fixed under warranty as it will involve changing parts covered by the warranty.

Oster A5 clippers are slow and vibrating noisily even without a blade attache. Any ideas what could be wrong with them please as I have a dog only half clipped at the moment. Thanks

If the nylon lever (the tab that moves the blade back and forth) is not moving with the blade off, or only moving sometimes, chances are that you have a stripped bakelite gear. Take the two screws out of the cover plate and remove it. Remove the lever (the nylon part that moves the blade) Remove the link (the metal part that the lever connects with). Remove the bakelite gear (the part that the link fits down over). You should then be able to see if the teeth are chewed or worn off to the point that the armature gear will not turn the bakelite gear. If that is the case, replace the gear. Amazon carries both single speed and 2 speed gears under Oster A5 clipper parts. All these parts should have a light coat, where they move, of lithium grease, and the two pads (one on each side of the lever) should be oiled. You might also check the condition of your brushes (under the caps on each side of the clipper. Take cap off, remove cover from brush, remove spring and brush to see how worn they are).
Good luck.

Run but will not cut

Are you sure you have Andis A5 or did you mean Oster A5 Clipper, if this clipper is A5 Clipper, You need to check the Lever for wear, The front of the Lever show wear on both side, Like white color and is not squad this Lever is worn. Need to replace. This Lever moves the blade side to side fully. if the Lever is worn the blade will not move fully side to side and the cutter blade the smaller blade will stay in the middle with hardly no travel to side to side and will not cut the hair even if you purchase new blades. Also I would like to mention if the Oster Locking Hinge is worn out and don't have the require tension to hold the blade in place the blade will not cut. How do you test the Oster Hinge on a Oster A5 Clipper,
(1) first close the hinge, in close potion with your finger nail try to open the Hinge, if the hinge slightly open or opens loose the Hinge is worn. if the Hinge is good it will not open or move and your nail may just brake your nail.
Many of my customers run into this type of problem, and the problem can be solve easily by checking these parts first.
One more item I would mention here if replace the A5 Hinge make sure you get the A5 Hinge not the Oster 76 Hinge they are driferrent, The A5 Hinge has on the back two wire's sticking out that fit on the Oster Latch for the A5 Hinge, the Oster 76 Hinge would not have these wire's on the back. I recommend replacing the Latch when you replace the Hinge. I hope this helps any body that have a A5 Oster clipper or A Oster 76 Clipper.

Blade replacement

the lever on the clippers locates into the cutter of the clipper blade its only a matter of lining the lever up with the slot in the top blade which you can slide from side to side by hand. Please keep in mind wear on this plastic Drive Lever may lead to cutting problems.

My Oster A5 is making a loud clacking sound. The sound only happens when the blade is in motion. If the motor runs without the blade, it has a normal sound. I think it has to do with the plastic part that...

This is for Clees534, with whom I have some sympathy. Terms regarding devices are all too often assumed as understood. For most purposes, these are what you have to know for the A5 Oster. The cover plate is the part with two screws that has the name and other info on it. If you remove the two screws and the plate, you will see a nylon part that moves the blade back and forth--that is the lever. The other end of the lever, with a hole in it, is connected to a metal part called the link. Both parts are easily removed by simply pulling them upward from the device. The bakelite gear is the part that the link sits on (the larger hole in the link). It too can be simply pulled up off the metal shaft that it rides upon (careful not to lose the washer under it). That gear is turned by the armature gear of the motor (which is where things get much too involved to cover here, but from that point on the device very rarely has problems). The lever, the link, and the gear can all quite simply be replaced. They are available quite inexpensively at Amazon under Oster A5 Clipper parts (note that the one speed and the two speed take different bakelite gears, but the lever and the link are the same). If you were to replace parts such as these, remember that a good white lithium grease is recommended in light application for the gear and the shafts (lever and gear shafts and armature gear). Also, the gear shaft has a hole down its middle (and two small holes that lead to the outside of the shaft. The shaft should be filled with grease so that grease can get through those small holes to lubicate the inside of the bakelite bearing. The simple way to tell if you need to replace parts is to grip the blade end of the lever while all parts are in place and try to move it back and forth, as though it were running the blade. If there is any more than the slightest movement, replace the lever (replace that anyway if the part that contacts the blade is rounded off) link and gear.

So, hope this makes things more understandable. Good luck.
