Question about Teac Audio Players & Recorders
I have a TEAC ( Model # A-4010S) reel to reel I bought in 1968
while in the Navy. Worked fine all these years but stopped playing this weekend. Works fast forward either way but won't turn in either direction.
I took off the back and cleaned all the dust out and sprayed the components with contact cleaner. If I don't thread the tape from reel to reel and over ride the shut off switch reels turn very fast and don't change direction in reverse. Does not appear too change speeds either.Help!!!
Hi, the contact cleaner could get to the drive pulley or drive belts, what you need to do is to lube the forward/reverse solenoid actuator arm and pivot links and another area that gets hard to move is where the pinch roller mounts and slides into the tape, the lubrication in that area gets old and hard, so applying a bit of 3in1 or light lube will due the trick, overall you are looking at a clean and lube job and not an electrical or electronic repair, also inspect either the idler wheel or the drive belts for possible wear, after more than 20 years of exsistance it is possible they need to be replaced. Try the evg products website for possible belts and or idler replacements, don't know if they still have the belts for r/r recorders. Good luck!
