Question about Linksys WRT110 Wireless Router

1 Answer

I have a Linksys WRT110 and I have two problems. The first is that whenever my roommate connects to the network, he knocks me offline. I don't have a problem connecting to the internet with the desktop, my husbands laptop or the XBOX. He is the only one that can cause everything else in my house to be knocked offline. Why? And sense I'm the one paying for internet service is there a way to control this? Also when I went to the easy link advisor it says "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" after everything I click on.

1 If you don't have a switch connected to the router or if your other devices are not on the Wireless allowed list in the router whoever has priority on the connection will knock the others device off that is xbox, laptops etc. Because bandwidth is being decreased and the connection is giving first come first serve priority.
You will need a switch or setup each wireless device in the router .
Instructions:
. power router off
2.connect all three computer you want to connect.
3. start computers one at a time completely
4. check router for status light per computer to see if device is seen by router.
5. open web page to see if each computer is online.
7. do ipconfig / release/renew if not connected

1.Log into router
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.

What you are trying to do is a rather big job. Hire a company to connect the equipment properly. The headaches you save will be your own. If you install it, you will have to fix it everytime it goes out if you contract someone to install it and you buy a support contract when they install it, THEY get to come fix it and the headache is theirs, not yours. And NEVER install that type of router in an attic, they will overheat and fail very quickly.

The easiest way is to run a long Ethernet cable from one of the 'LAN' (or 'network') ports on the "first" router to the 'WAN' (or 'Internet') port on the second router. The "first" router is the one connected to your cable-modem or DSL-modem. Both routers will auto-configure themselves for this "wired" connection. Configure the wireless-adapter in the second router as per normal.

Or, run a long Ethernet cable from the cable-modem (or DSL-modem) to a location in the "center" of your home, where you can put your wireless-router, such that its signal spans the entire building.

Or, move the cable-modem (or DSL-modem) to a location in the "center" of your home, and connect the one router at that location.
