Browser area too small ubuntu 10.04 I stalled Ubuntu 10.04? (latest vers) Works fine but I notice area where firefox is while viewing a web page; I want to expand this area so that address bar and tools, file, view are closer to top of screen on t42 laptop. Don't want to use f11 for full screen view as this is too large. Any solution for this (tried dragging top of firefox area up, does not work) please submit solution. Please read this thoroughly before posting inappropriate solution. Thank you. (probably better if you have installed this os on a laptop yourself)

Is this problem occurring only for Firefox or for all the windows you open. If it is common for all, have a check at the resolutions settings.

For most users, this problem was fixed by with the F11 trick.

There are several solutions for several users. As for me and as I've tried for myself, two main tips are here and I too hope that one will definitely work for you.

1. Open the "Compiz Config Settings Manager" under "System/Preferences" > Go to the "Utility" section of Compiz Config Settings Manager and open the "Workarounds" plugin. UN-check the box for "Legacy Fullscreen Support".

2. Press F11 once when it's in full screen mode, restart the firefox.

I wish you good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I cannot find the area you defined, did search also for it, nothing found. This is the new Latest Version (remember) What will your method actually allow me to do or how will it change appearance (don't like full screen view as seen w f11)

I am sorry, What I mentioned here is no different with yours either. I am afraid what might goes wrong, but that's all what I can assist for now.

You can also try the "System performance" from the display settings, in few cases it worked, when all the animations are disabled.

Thanks for your patience, you can still try with another expert. I'll appreciate your feedback and testimony..

    Good luck..

Cannot view some webpages with acer p205h on ubuntu

This is unlikely to be a monitor issue, more likely a browser issue.
Please ensure you have the latest version of Ubuntu, Firefox and/or Google Chrome.
If this does not solve it, let us know which web pages you're having trouble with so we can take a look.

Trying to download

Whilst most conventional operating systems you must pay for, or come free with some hardware. It is very easy to download some operating systems that are linx based. I would suggest downloading the latest version of ubuntu from this link: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

Installing on ubuntu

First question to ask. Check the game, can it run under Linux (Ubuntu).
If yes, check the Ubuntu community for help (can be reached thru the google start-up page of firefox browser on your ubuntu machine)

Ubuntu Troubleshooting

One of the most common issues people have after getting their codecs installed into Ubuntu, is the sad discovery that Ubuntu won’t play Avi files from inside of your Firefox browser. Well, there is a fairly simple fix for this - lose GStreamer and switch to Xine.

You do this from Synaptic located from System, Administration in Ubuntu. In the search box for the application, just do a query for totem-xine. Once it comes up, select (double click) and then allow the uninstallation of totem-gstreamer. It’s simple!
