Question about DEI Valet Keyless Entry System

Open Question

I have a 2000 BMW with a DEI Your Valet RPN 491 car alarm. The battery was replaced by the dealer and they also removed the panel for the car alarm and now the remote doesn't work. It won't lock the doors when the engine starts. I've looked other areas, and tried to do the reset by opening the door, pressing the valet switch and the lock button, but that doesn't work. The alarm will close the locks if I start the engine and press the lock button and it will also unlock the car by pressing the unlock button but when I shut the engine off - the remote doesn't work. The lights showing the alarm are off (red) are blinking. Can you help! I've taken it to CarToys and they were unable to do anything. Dealer now saying not his problem . . . the car still runs - thankfully, but I need my alarm to work. CarToys suggests buying a new remote. What do you think?

SOURCE: My DEI Valet system will not operate the door

You failed to mention the year/make/model of the vehicle so, I will assume that there existed some sort of door lock/unlock/alarm disarm bypass module in your vehicle that is no longer functioning. There is no simpler fix then either resetting the module or, remove and replace it.

Dei viper python valet hornet boa transmitter programming help

DEI REMOTE PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS
Need a DEI Remote Replacement Now? Try our all New Remote Quick-Find
Not sure what type of Replacement Remote you need?
In order to enter Learn Routine, the Valet/Program push button must be plugged
into the main brain's Blue 2 Pin Port (Look for a small black push button located under
the drivers dash or drivers kick panel somewhere). If you do not have the Valet/Program switch, you may order it at www.lesscoelectronics.com or www.lesscosales.com

1)
Open a door and make sure the dome light is on.

2)
Turn the ignition on to the RUN position or you may also start car.

3)
Within 15 seconds press and release the Valet/Program push button
to select the channel you wish to program. For example, press and release
once for channel 1 (arm/disarm channel).
For Channel 2, press and release twice (trunk release).
For Channel 3, press and release three times (remote start).
(Some DEI systems require different programming for different channels. You
can get specific installation manuals with remote programming instruction)

Press and hold the Valet/Program push button once more. You should get a
confirmation chirp/horn-honk or a flashing LED light (If installed).
If you do not get a chirp/horn-honk the alarm may have a jumper in
the alarm that has the programming feature turned OFF (disabled).

4)
Once the alarm chirps/horn-honks keep holding the Valet/Program push button.

5)
Press the button on the transmitter that you would like to control the selected receiver
channel. A chirp/horn-honk will confirm that the code has been learned. If programming
more than one transmitter repeat step 5. Old transmitter codes will be dropped only
if programming 4 new transmitters.

6)
Once the code(s) are learned, the Valet/Program push button can be released.

Learn Routine will be Exited if:

Ignition is turned off
Door is closed
Valet/Program push button is pressed too many times
More than 15 seconds elapses between steps
One long chirp/horn-honk indicates that Learn Routine has been exited.

So I have a viper alarm system in my car and awhile ago the remote got wet, so in order to be able to start my car i had to disable the alarm by turning the ignition on and pressing that eraser like...

You have to turn off your ignition and immediately press that 'eraser like button'(valet switch) for a second and release it. Alarm will then come out of valet mode and your remote should work, if it's good.

Alarm is stuck in valet mode

This will work for many alarms, but not all:
Locate valet push button, may be hidden on or under dash somewhere. Turn on ignition, doesn't have to be started. Then push and hold valet button for a few seconds. Most alarms will chirp to confirm operation was a success.
DEI products require a slightly different procedure, and drivers door has to be open.
Some can be done through the remote.
Model of alarm will help alot, or FCC ID from back of remote. DC

My Python 990 system is acting up.Installed several months ago. Now doors wont lock or unlock and alarm goes off every time the door is open even in the unlock pososition. The vehicle is a 2002 Escalade...

Sounds like you have a bad remote, bad battery in the remote, or it needs to be reprogramed to the alarm. If the alarm has been set with the remote, it will need to be disarmed with the remote as well, unlocking the door with the key and getting in, will set off the viper. If you know where you valet switch for the alarm is(small black push button), just turn the key forward till everything on the dash lights up, push the valet switch for about one second and let go. The alarm should shut off in a couple seconds. This will allow you to drive the car until you get you remote checked out.

There is a white wire coming from the alarm, there should be a blue 15 amp fuse in that wire, close to the brain for the alarm. It sounds like you have blown that fuse.

Remote starter will not restart my vehicle

If you have an alarm, or remote start with an alarm, you need to press and hold thethe valet button which would be hidden under the dash on the driver side, as you are turning the key sometimes remote starts have a starter disable or an alarm option to reset it that is what needs to be done, some systems even if you dont have an alarm go into a valet mode if your remote battery is old or you never reset it or the alarm kicked in or what have you. if this does not work for you then you will need to bring it to a dealership and have them do a total reset to the computer you can also try disconnecting the negative battery cable, but do this with the door open cause it will reset everything, and google the reset procedure for the key fob (remote).. do that reset for the remote and it should save you money from having to bring it to a shop or dealer.
hope this helps.
