I am not a computer person but we did install a new Radeon hd 4650 video card in my son's hp. The Best Buy Geeks looked it up for our model and said it was compatible. We put in a new power supply. The picture works but no sound. Doesn't recognize the speakers at all. Says nothing is plugged in and there is no volume bar at all. We did updates on drivers and don't know how to take it all apart and redo it. Why is there no sound now? When we check device manager it says ati is our audio driver. So we can't figure out how it isn't working.

Are your speakers plugged into the 3.5 mm jack on the system?

When you install the Radeon driver, it can sometimes change the default audio output to the HDMI port on the video card. For various Windows OS versions, you need to set this in the audio section of the Control Panel. The specifics may vary. For versions before Windows 10, Click on Start and select the Control Panel. Then choose the Hardware section. Find the Sound section and Manage Audio Devices. In the Playback tab, right click on the correct audio device (Speakers) and select Set as Default Device. Depending on the system, you'll probably see AMD HDMI Output and Digital Output. For Windows 10 before the Creator Update, right click on Start and look for the Control Panel. After the Creator Update, you'll need to click on Start and expand the Windows System folder.

I hope this helps.

Hello.

ATI (AMD) does not "technically" support AGP products, but go to this link.

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/CatalystAGPHotfix.aspx

To download the driver. Versions 9.6 and 9.7 will work, depending on your OS. Just download and install the drivers and the yellow exclamation mark will go away.

I entered your info and it appears the card #100288L Radeon HD 4650 1GB DDR2 has Windows 7 support. This card requires a 400w or greater power supply and, a 6 pin power hook up. You have to un-install the VGA driver and Catalyst control center before downloading new. You can do so in a "custom" uninstall then, a "custom" install.

Hi,

Judging from the symptoms you describe I suspect that your graphics card is faulty. Did you buy the card new? If so, I would suggest returning it & asking the store to test it for you.
If it is determined that the card is not faulty, reply to this post & I will try to help you further.

I installed a radeon hd4650 and now I have no sound. It says in device driver that there's no audio device. I do not even show a volume control. Help!

Sounds like the video overtook the sound driver i would try and remove and replace your sound card or if it is onboard sound remove and replace the driver. Also try and find an update for the video cardthere might be an update on that issue.Best of luck.
