Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional for PC

Need advice on possible design time

Good day, everyone! I apologize for a long
entry in advance. Our HR department decided
it needs an IT solution to help smooth out
training choice for employees via presenting
them with an easy learning menu. Software
development is going to be outsourced to
some other company. The idea is as follows -
an employee, using corporate username logs
into the system, which automatically retrieves
info about his tenure, department, name and
so forth (from a secure database) and presents
him with option choices for available trainings.
It then automatically generates an e-mail to
his manager (input by user), which has to
confirm the arrangements, so that trainings are
automatically reserved via e-learning tool our
company uses. HR department gets a
notification, so it knows how many people are
willing to attend each training session.
Functional HRs should be able to filter thru the
results, displaying relevant info on the ratio of
the people who enrolled/completed the training
using different filters (like employee's
department, seniority etc). If people skipped a
mandatory training their name should be
visible. At the end of year reports are
generated to all participating sides. The
question is - how much time (I need a very
rough estimate) system development might
take from the ground-up? It also needs to be
tested on 10% of the users prior to
deployment (2000 users all-in-all). Also do you
know of any tools which might be of help in my
situation? I understand it's hard to say based
on the info provided, I would gladly share any
additional data. Thank you very much for
constructive feedback.

If you are running a Active Directory based Domain, you could easily slot in a Sharepoint server and site for this. Sharepoint plugins are varied and numerous, so you would get the benefit of a shared document repository, calendaring , unified comms and your query/database driven extensions to the users Active Directory profiles. this last part is the section that you should be most interested in. .

Definately look into that, as a 2000 person LAN surely could afford that platform.

I estimate upwards of 6 months to get a Beta running on 10% of the staff. that should include the testing phase.

Thank you, paranz! We were actually planning to build our system on a SharePoint platform so that it could be associated with our Intranet sites, which are all SharePoint. This advice of yours is just-in-time. I also appreciate your upwards estimate - we really need that info right now.

Well based on the information you have given an estimated time to build an set up like that is impossible to predict with out exact specifications. we would need to know exactly what options and filters you wanted for each group to have(manager, HR, etc...). plus testing will almost always find some sort of problem and a time frame on that is impossible to predict but I do not believe you would have to make a system as the one you are speaking of. I am almost positive there are systems out there that do exactly what you are asking about most of them do much much more then what you are asking it to do such as SIS. I believe that a more cost affective solution would be to purchase a system that is pre-made for business solutions such as your.

I hope this helped.

Thank you,
Norse

JVC HR-S5902U / HR-S5912U S-VHS VCR POWER PROBLEM

Same problem with my HR-3911U after a power spike. Cracked open the box and as I suspected the fuse had blown. Removed fuse, plugged in and tested across connectors, 115v ac good reading. Replaced fuse (1.25a 250v) plugged in and nothing. The deck electronics had fried. Keeping for spare parts such as head and transport mech.

Time to get a new one and a better surge protector. My UPS logs show a 1200+v spike the day it died. We had storms all around us and thunder in the distance, but nothing close by and no rain, but the spike still made it to our inadequate surge protector.

I've read a lot of forums where other JVC owners have experienced the same problem. It appears to be inherent to these JVC Vcrs.
