Try to reinstall your audio drivers. Normally this is included in your support CD.

Hope this helps.

I have no audio in my pc

First verify you see a small sound icon sound3.gif or sound.jpg in the Systray (generally at the bottom right hand corner of your screen). If this icon is missing follow the below section.
Windows XP

  1. Open the "Control panel"
  2. Open the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon.
  3. Verify the "Place volume icon in the taskbar" checkbox is checked. If this option is not available or is grayed out, skip to the next section of this document.
  4. If you were able to check this box, click ok and close out of this window and the Control Panel.
  5. Double-click the sound icon in the Systray and verify that all the sound volumes are mid-way or higher.

Conflicts section

If conflicts exists withyour sound card or other devices installed in your computer it islikely that either the drivers are not properly installed for thatdevice or the sound card or other devices are conflicting. If you openthe properties of the device that is conflicting and view theproperties, additional details about the conflict can be found.Additional information about error codes as well as help with DeviceManager can be found on our Device Manger Section.

If you are unable to locate additional information about your issue or are unable to resolve the issue, follow the below steps.

  1. Under Sound, Video and game controllers highlight each device and press the delete key to remove the device.
  2. Reboot the computer.
  3. As the computer is booting the system will detect the sound card andany of it's devices and re-install those devices. If prompted for alocation of drivers, try pointing it to your sound card CD or yourWindows CD. If this does not work or is unable to locate the properfiles, you will need to get the latest sound drivers from your sound card manufacturer.

I think I accidentally deleted the mic software because there's no sound. how can I re-istall it back? comp is Dell Latitude D600

We need more information to help you.

What operating system are you running?

What exactly did you delete when you said you "think" you deleted the software"?

Are you saying you deleted the sound card device driver software using the Windows device manager or did you remove some other audio application?

I will try and help anyway with minimal information so far.

If you're running windows XP (vista is similar) I would check if the driver software for the sound card is still intact. The microphone itself has no "software" exactly. It's just connected to the Internal sound card and the sound card has a driver program that allows it to communicate with the operating system, and thus it can provide recording or other microphone functions.

1. Check if the sound card device driver is still there.
Right click on "My Computer", Select "Manage" and go to the "device manager". Look for an entry in the section most likely called "Sound , video and game controllers". If the drive software is missing there will be an entry there listing a sound device with a yellow exclamation mark next to it. It may also end up in some other generic section of that same page since Windows may not know how to categorize the device if the driver is missing.

If the sound card is OK it will be listed there and if you look at the details it would say no problem is detected.

2. Make sure the laptop speakers are not muted or turned down.

3. Make sure the mic itself is not muted also or turned down.
You can view those controls by double-clicking the speaker icon down near the clock in the lower right corner, or by going to in the control panel > sound-audio devices.

4. Check the mixer levels for both play and record, you can only view one at a time.
That means there is a mixer for playback and another one for recording. If your device driver is missing you have to fix that first.

Even if you remove the "driver" the files are still on the computer unless you proactively went and found the driver files (not likely) and removed them. For example, if you go to the control panel and delete the sound card entry, it will come back when you reboot because the driver files are still on the system.

You could go get the latest sound card driver from Dell.com.
Go to the Dell home computers > Support page, Drivers, Laptop > Lattitude, etc and put in your model number of your laptop or the service tag number from the bottom of the laptop. I won't cover the exact sequence since you should be able to find it in about 2 minutes.

This direct link might work (take out spaces if they show up)
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Dell drivers are a single file that is self extracting after you download it, and then go find it and run it. It will install the appropriate driver files when you double-click on the installer.

It appears the Dell D600 has a Sigmatel sound card by default..

We can provide a shorter and more accurate solution if you provide more details as indicated earlier.

Lost sound device, after deleting old files we relized we had lost our sound device

you need to go to Control Panel - system - Device Manager. There you will be able to find the drive that runs your 'sound card device'. click on that and it should indicate if this device is working properly or not and have a button to click on for fixing. If that doesnt work, try another simple route and if your computer has this setting....go to 'system restore point' and set it back a few days, or a week. check for sound, then carefully recheck the old files you want to delete. Double check the file you want to delete for it may support your sound card and may not work without certain programs. Hope this helped!!!

Sound card

Dear Loreerupe,

This sounds like a corrupted software file. Please use your installation disk and reinstall the sound driver file. This will overwrite the corrupted files and upon the machine rebooting you will have gained sound operation again.

Unfortunately you dont state the model/maker/windows operating system and cannot help any further with instructions/manuals/driver files.

I hope you can fix this,
Regards
Please dont forget to rate this solution if you found it usefull.
