Question about Sony VAIO RB30C (VGCRB30) PC Desktop

1 Answer

When I try to start my VGC-RB30 (back from sleep mode or fresh start), computer comes on, but monitor doesn't (or I get the VAIO screen only). Yesterday, I unplugged the computer altogether, then plugged back in and it started. Today, even that didn't work at first. Got lots of fan noise and the VAIO screen or lots of fan noise and no monitor. Then, after another try, XP loaded. Help?

Check all of your adapter cards (PCI or AGP or PCIE) to ensure they are seated into the MB properly. As the problem seems video related double check the graphics adapter if it is a stand alone card. AGP cards can be tricky to seat properly on some mb's

Due to an electrical outage, desktop computer (Sony Vaio VGC-RB30), lost power and would not reboot. A small blinking green light on the back panel was the only thing happening. Is this a hard disc problem...

this usually mean the power supply went bad and is in safe mode.(so other component in the computer won't get damaged) try unplugging the computer from the wall and wait 10 minutes. If you plug it in and the green light is still flashing the power supply is the most likely thing that is wrong. you can take the power supply to a local repair shop and they can test it in a few seconds. my guess is that it is bad. (please rate)

Hi,
The problem could be caused due to high refresh rate or resolution settings on the video card that are not compatible with the monitor.

Restart the computer and keep tapping on the F8 screen before the windows starts to load. Highlight the option enable VGA mode and hit enter. Your windows would start with defualt settings for the video card. Check if the problem is still there. Otherwise lower the screen resolution and refresh rate according to the monitor you have.

Sony VGC-RB30 won't start....

First things first, you may have already done this, but sometimes it can be overlooked...check the settings of the monitor(I've forgotten this several times when I first owned a pc). Next, if the settings are correct and not on "black or white or whatever color your monitor is", check for any visible damage to your monitor, such as cracks, missing pixels, etc. If you see anything out of the ordinary with your monitor, try to swap it with a monitor you know works, and power it up. If the 'new' monitor works, then all you need is a new monitor!
