Have you considered NOT connecting the camera to the computer?

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.

Usb device not recognized

Assuming a healthy camera battery, capable of holding a charge - try another cable / USB port / Computer first.

When it's same on all USB ports and a different computer, wiggle the USB connector on the camera carefully. If the connection is ok at some point, it's the camera USB port making bad connection.

Change the USB port. If you are connecting it to front USB of your computer, try connecting it to USB port at back of computer..

My computer does not detect my power shot A400

If you camera is not detected when connected to your computers USB port what you can try here first is to connect the camera on a different USB port and make sure the connections and usb cable is fine, and if your computer is a desktop you can try connecting the the camera on the back USB port of your computer and see if that will be fine.

But if still not working I will suggest you try connecting the camera on different computer and also if possible use a different USB cable and reinstall the camera software if you have the setup disc for it.

When I connect the cable to the USB port the computer no longer recognizes the camera connection.

You may have to reload software that came with camera. Or go on line and search for it. It is also possible that your USB port is bad. Try a different USB port on your computer.

USB DEvice not recognized

I had a problem like this -- tried plugging the camera in to the rear USB slots not the front ones and it worked fine.

I think that it doesn't like going via a USB hub, but wants a direct connection. All of the USB ports on my computer are connected direct to the motherboard (i.e. none are on PCI cards or anything), but looking at the hardware info for the computer, it looks like the motherboard has a few "direct" USB connections, and then an on-board hub which the front ports connect to. If your computers are the same, that would explain things. I'd suggest trying each USB port one at a time (turn the camera off before plugging in, and back on when in) and see if one of them works. Wouldn't hurt to power the camera from the mains at the time too.

First, I need to ask the dumb questions:
1. Are both computers running XP?
2. When you connect the camera, do you turn the camera on?
3. Do other USB devices work when connected to the same
USB PORTS you are using to connect the camera?

Ok, since the camera is not recognized at all on both computers, we can pretty much disregard USB PORT failure, but just in case, try different USB PORTS on both, please.

Most if not all cameras should be recognized as mass storage devices just by connecting them to USB PORT on computer, and should be visible as a new drive in MY COMPUTER icon.

Maybe your bundled USB CABLE is not working, or this is one camera that insists on using the bunbled software package that came with the camera.

Last thing to try is to buy a multi-card reader/writer and put the memory card in there. That has to work!

Hope that helps.

"little tikes- my real camera" can't upload pics

The USB connection seams to be very sensitive try pushing the USB cable into the camera firmly and wiggling it. Once the mass storage device is recognized be careful not to move the plug. The connection can be very flaky.

Good luck,

Mike

Computer not recognizing Camera

Are you always using the same USB-port on your PC? If yes try to use another USB-port.
If the above solution will not work try to re-install the camera drivers.

I cudnt connect my camera with my computer

1st, try using another USB port. Some ports are only able to recognize something like a mouse, or speakers. 2nd, make sure that when you connect your camera to the USB cord, that your camera is off. Then, once connected, turn the camera on to 'AUTO'. This will force your computer to find a way to review the media on the device. It will do one of three things. It will open your Kodak Easyshare program, ask you what you would like to use to open the media (choose either your existing software or open with your computer's media software) or it will open a new page and show two or three folders with your photos inside.
Hope it helps!
