Hi, if it has the same amount of gears usually 3 then you will have no problem at all swapping them over, now as long as the frame thickness is the same or the new derailleur can take up the slack on lock onto the frame securely then you will have no problems what so ever.

The only thing you need to make sure you get right is the allignment and the cable tension correct so it changes the gears as it should do, it may take some adjusting but its not to difficult to do, as long as you run the cable correctly and you have the cable pulled through enough then the gears should change just fine.

once its fitted you can then adjust the cable after to ensure it is changing gears properly, the only problem you may have is if the cable is stretched or damaged as this can cause the gear change to be slow so if you are unsure of the cable then replace with new as its costs next to nothing for a new cable, but apart from that you should be able to do it no problems as its an easy job to do, just make sure the cable runs where it should do if you do change the cable as long as you do that you should have it done in couple of hours.

let me know if you have any problems ok

Hi, I have a 30T bigring and straight bars. I need the Shimano FD-R453 front derailleur but can't find a UK stockist. Do you stock the Shimano FD-R453 front derailleur? Terry Stevens Mobile:...

We don't stock anything but advice.

Do they have Google where you live? Or a Local Bicycle Shop? Or online shopping which makes physical locations moot? "UK" doesn't narrow it down much.

When shopping for a front derailleur you need to know several things: braze-on or clamp mount; if clamp, seat tube diameter; top pull, bottom pull.

Where can i get replacement front derailleur? or specs sheet ?thanks peter

The documentation I found says the Front derailleur is a Falcon MF 31 T.

But there's more that needs to be known about it.

It appears to be a Top Pull, meaning the cable approaches it from above and the 31T means it works with a front chainring of 31 teeth.

We need to determine the exact outside diameter (to the .1 mm) of the seat tube as the clamp must be precisely fitted. Typical measurements look like 28.6 mm or 31-1/8".

Once you know that you can go anywhere (eBay, for example) and order the same pos derailleur or upgrade to a Shimano Deore or above mountain derailleur.

Google this but keep in mind you still need to specify the clamp size

With Shimano 6603 Group can you use Shimano 5703 shifters, or even triple Tiagra shifters?? Thanks for the reply

The answer is yes and no.

The 5703 shifters will work both derailleurs and match the 6603 group as they are both 10spd.

The Tiagra will not work because it is 9spd, it will functionally shift the derailluer but you will not be able to line up the gearing.

The rear shifter needs to match the number of gears on the back (cassette) in the case of the 6603 group that is 10spd, so you can use any 10spd rear shifter from shimano. The Tiagra is either an 8spd or 9spd depending on the model and will not work with the cassette. You can use a 6603 rear derailleur with a Tiagra group, as long as the shifter and cassette are both the same.

Shimano 105 front shifter problem

There will be adjustment, check the front derailleur. There is a wire which is held by a pinch bolt, undo the bolt pull the wire out a little, tighten up and check the gears again. Do this until it works.

Hope this helps

How do the adjusting screws work on a shimano tiagra front derailleur?

They are basically stop screws, the stop the derailleur from pushing the chain off the sprockets in both directions,You can adjust these so you don't have to worry about losing a chain or grinding a chain, trying to get it in position.

Shimano 105 10 speed rear derailleur doesn't shift up or down well and doesn't stay in gear. Fairly new ( 250 miles)

Try this:
Set your shifter to the highest gear while turning the crank. If you have to, manually set the derailleur to the highest gear.
Release the derailleur cable by loosening its screw.
Pull the cable taut and re-tighten the screw that clamps the derailleur cable.
You should be all set.
The cable stretches over time. This can be avoided by "pre-stretching" new cables. To do this, simply shift into first gear and pull the derailleur cable away from the frame (where you are able to do so) fairly hard, several times. Then you just release and re-tighten the cable like mentioned in the steps above.
Happy riding!

Shimano 105. Front derailleur won't shift down

It sounds like you could have two different problems. Your derailleur has become contaminated or your shifter may need to be lubed. Either way, the likely solution is the same. The best solution to get the derailleur operating again is to spray it with GT-85 or PB blaster and manually move in back and furth until it is working again. The same goes for the 105 shifter, spray GT-85 inside the shifter by compressing the brake lever and spraying towards the head of the shift cable. This will solve a non-functioning shifter many times.

The only other problem that fits is the limit screws could be wrong or the deraileur is in the wrong position. This would not be the case unless someone adjusted your derailleur before the ride you started have that problem. Or if the derailleur has moved. Both of which require the derailleur to be fully readjusted.

Hope this helps. Thank you

Shimano 105 front derailleur does not change down easily - anyone got a solution?

Try lubricating the cable and housing. If it has much resistance then it will not operate correctly.
