If it is the EF-S 18-55 mm lens, the filter diameter is 58 mm.

I have just purchased polaroid lense filters polaroid say they are compatible with Nikon d90 but I cant get them on do I need something else to attach them

Filters must be the right size for each lens. For example the 18-105mm kit lens that comes with most D-90 kits uses a 67mm filter. They thread into the main lens. It is always safer to put a clear or UV filter on your camera lens to protect the expensive lens glass. You can thread another type of lens onto it as easily as you can your base lens. Be sure and do not force a threaded lens filter onto your lens or you will damage the expensive lens. It should thread on easily and do not over tighten it.

Will the Quantaray 49mm to 55mm step up ring work on a Sony a100 DSLR camera

The step-up ring will on any lens with a 49mm filter thread, regardless of the manufacturer. The easiest way to find out whether it works with any given lens is to see whether the ring fits onto the front of the lens (you could also read the filter size written on the lens itself).
If it doesn't fit, purchase the appropriate step-up ring. That will be much cheaper than buying a whole new set of filters.
If the new lens(es) have a 55mm filter thread then you don't need the step-up ring at all. The filters will mount directly onto the lens.

Dear sirs; What type of uv filter fits a quantarary tech 10 28mm - 200mm zoom lens. I have several 62mm filters and the zoom lens does not accept the normal threaded screw on format common to lenses

First, make sure that the lens diameter is 62mm. It should say on the front or on the body of the lens. If this is correct, it could be a unique mount that would require a specific brand. If it's quantaray, it might require quantaray filters. If it's an old lens, it might require an attachment to the front of the lens that would act as a filter holder for the square filter tiles.

Will a Vivitar 58 mm UV filter attach to a Nikon d3100 18-55mm lens?

Not directly. The 18-55mm takes 52mm filters. However, you could purchase a 52-58 step-up ring to allow you to adapt the filter to the lens for significantly less money than a 52mm UV filter. One such adapter is http://www.adorama.com/IRXRA5852.html

I bought filters for Nikon d60 n I don't kno how to fit them.now they told me tk buy the 55 mm filters so I bought them because apparently thats the size of my lens which 18-55 mm n now I dunno if the...

They told you wrong. The 18-55mm lens takes 52mm filters, as is marked on the lens near the mount.

You can either trade your 55mm filters for 52mm filters, or else get a 52-55mm step-up ring, which will adapt a 55mm filter for a 52mm lens.

Filters go onto the front of the lens. Remove the lens hood if one is attached. You'll see a threaded rim around the lens. The correctly sized filter (or step-up ring) screws into that.

I bought a Rocketfish 55mm uv filter and tried to install in on my 18-55mm lens. I thought it would be easy but I think it's a wrong fit. I need help installing it.

The 55mm uv filter refers to the diameter - 55mm. This is unrelated to the focal length of your lens 18 - 55mm, which could be any diameter. You need to note the required filter size of your lens and purchase the appropriate size.

Dont know where filters go for Quantaray mirror lens 755035

That lens takes a 77mm filter - if you examine the end of the lens very closely, you'll see some threads just on the inside lip of the very edge - the filter screws on to the end via those threads.

What are the best filters for my canon t70

Any Canon FD lens will work. Also any 3rd party lens for the Canon FD mount.
Filters? depends on what you're shooting, but keep a UV or Skylight filter on the lens at all times. If you drop it, the damage will happen to the filter...not the lens.
