Question about Maytag MDG3600BW Gas Dryer

1 Answer

Gas dryer dosn't heat properly

I have a Maytag Neptune 2000 gas dryer model MDG4000BWW. The igniter gets hot an the gas burner turns on for a little bit and then the gas flame drops out. After a little time the gas turns on again then cuts out. The air in the dryer gets warm but not hot so the clothes take an extra long time to dry. The lint screen and passages are clean. Is there a temp switch that is not working properly?

The problem is the dryer coils are failing. They tend to fail as they heat up. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. Here is a link that should help http://appliancehelponline.com/gdryertroublevideo.html

I have a MDG6700 with the same issue..all my research on this problem points to the 2 coils on the gas valve. Tomorrow i am going to change them (kit is about 30 bucks to get local)..coils test good but other postings about this dryer say one coil gets hot and is weak and close the gas valve thus stopping the heating process..

check the high limit/cycling switch thermostat located on the heat housing ,you will need to remove the front panel to access this, then, bypass the high-limit with a jumper wire and see if the flame stays on longer,if this doesn't help, then check the radiant senser on the tube also they get dirty, you can clean the senser eye or bypass this also and see if its weak,if not then replace the 2 gas coil valves on the gas valve body as these will get weak and shut off the gas supply

After a few heating cycles the burner does not ignite

The problem you are describing is usually associated with a bad gas valve coil. The dryer runs normally until it gets hot, then starts making a strange clicking noise. After it cools down, the dryer runs normally again. The gas valve coils (there are two of them) usually run about $20 a piece. I recommend replacing both of them at the same time just to be sure. I hope this helps.
