Question about Hotpoint Aquarius WD640 Front Load Washer/Dryer

1 Answer

Drum smells my washing machine suddenly started to produce washing that did not smell fresh on Saturday. I washed it again on Sunday and hung it out to dry and it still smells musty. The drum of the machine smells musty. I have checked the filter and only found some grit and four dressmaking pins. There is no kink in the outlet/inlet pipe. I have run the machine on empty at the hottest cycle and it still smells musy - it is almost like there is stagnant water - but where else do I check?? any help appreciated

Open the door and run your hand deep inside the door seal. It probally has a slime around it. You can clean this with a bleach water mix. You might need to pull the seal somewhat inside out to get it real clean. Then run an empty load to flush it all out. Here is a link for replacing the seal or spring clips if you pull one off. http://appliancehelponline.com/washerdoorseal.html

What lime scale / detergent remover can be used for regular cleaning of my front loader.

Front-loading washing machines are energy efficient and use less detergent than top-loaders, but they sometimes have a tendency to harbor mold and unpleasant smells. By giving your washing machine a quick clean once a month, you'll keep your front-loader fresh, which means cleaner clothes, too. This eco-friendly method doesn't use bleach, costs only pennies to make, and comes together with ingredients you already have on hand.
What You'll Need:
  • 2 cups vinegar
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Scrub sponge
Directions:
  1. Start by mixing together the baking soda and water in a small bowl. This is going to be the "detergent" for cleaning the washing machine. Pour the vinegar into a measuring cup and head over to your washing machine.
  2. Add the baking soda mixture to the detergent container of your machine and pour the vinegar into the drum. Set your washer to normal load at the hottest water setting. Close the door and start the machine, letting it do all the hard work for you. The baking soda and vinegar naturally break up mineral deposits and any mold growth while cleaning and refreshing your washing machine.
  3. Use a clean scrubber to rub around the opening of the washing machine, removing stubborn mold or residue. Wipe clean with fresh water.
  4. Your washing machine is sparkling clean and ready to do a load of laundry! Give your front-loader a cleaning once a month to keep your clothes smelling fresh and your machine working in tip-top condition.

My kitchenaid washer has a burning smell

Hi, a slipping or severed belt will produce a burned rubber smell. A belt supports the drum and ensures its smooth movement. If it wears, the drum's movements weaken and finally come to an abrupt halt. In addition, a slipped or severed belt usually produces a burned rubber smell. Refer to the washing machine manual to review how to locate the belt. If the belt is no longer around the drum's center, shift the belt back to its original position. If rubber fibers are discernible or cracks are apparent, change out the worn belt for a new one.

Thank you.

How can I stop my washing machine from smelling and producing smal grey lumps of muck ,the seal and drum are cleaned regulaly also have tried washing machine cleaner

As with Mieles I would recommend that you run a few more hot wash cycles, the build up of gunk over the years would have accummulated - there are Gurus out there with remedies to make it smell nice, I have not tried the natural remedies yet.

WF740 Hotpoint washing machine with bad smell from drum. Tried 95 degree wash but still smells. Door seal slightly blackened but I think smell is from drum too. Any help?

Wash it out with a strong solution of washing soda placed into the drum before you fill the machine

Ps

Run the machine empty through a full hot cycle then run the soda one

The first will soften the deposits and the second should help kill the bacteria that is causing the smell.

Reducing the load so that there is more agitation helps as well

This sure sounds like a bad transmission. Turn the transmission by hand to feel and listen to it. It should be smooth and quiet.

Machine smells mouldy- washing stinks!

Find out where your filter is; it is at the end of the thick hose coming down from the bottom of your tub; open up and clean out. Another possibility is there could be something stuck in your drum, feel if you could locate it. Next clean out the hoses in machine. After all this flush out with a hot wash, without clothes. People shd ask the service man where the filter is. If he knows that is.......................It gives you the biggest problem if you dont check.
