Changed from windows home vista to windows Xp and dont have sound

Have you check if the driver for the sound card is installed?

You can check it on the device manager:

To go to Device Manager
here's what you need to do:

  1. On the desktop right-click on My Computer and click Properties or open the Control Panel and double-click the System icon.
  2. In the System Properties window click the Hardware tab.
  3. In the Hardware tab click the Device Manager button.
or
  1. Click Start
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. In the Control Panel double-click the Systems icon.
  5. In the System Properties window click the Hardware tab.
  6. In the Hardware tab click the Device Manager button and
NOTE: look for Sound devices or If you see other devices (In yellow "?")

and under that is the Audio Controller or Audio device
it only means that the driver for the sound card is not yet installed.

Audio

Please make sure that the physical volume control is not mute. Also, please press on Fn+Esc to check if it is not muted. If these did not work, please go to the device manager. If you are using Vista, please click on Start-Control Panel-Classic View-Device Manager. Then select the Sound, Game and Video Controllers. Select the one for the Audio by clicking on it then select properties. Then go to the drivers tab then select uninstall. Then please restart your laptop. Please check if it works this time. If you are using Xp, that shoud be Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager
If it does not, please go back to the same driver tab then select update driver. You need to have an internet connection for this one.
If this does not work either, please go to the manufacturer's SUPPORT WEBSITE pcsupport.toshiba.com so that you can download the latest sound driver for your model.
Hope this helps. Thank you.

No sound on the laptop

If you have windows XP check : control panel / Sound speech and audio devices / Sound and audio devices. Then check that the volume cursor can be moved and that the device is not muted. If this doesnt work remove the sound card from device manager, and install it back using drivers from your recovery disk or download them from Toshiba website.

Hope it helps

No sound from media centre

Hi, You need a windows XP sound driver for your sound card. If you know your sound card's name go to www.toshiba.com and look for your country support then Service and Support choose the laptop you have and download the driver for your sound card or if you couldn't find it email the and get the drivers from them. or go to: www.google.com and search for "download driver your sound card's name" and install it. Or if you don't know the name of your sound card follow the steps below: Control Panel >> System >> Hardware >> Device Manager Look for yellow signed "Other Device" >> see if mentions your sound card's name. if not then you need to see your laptop's manual. Please come back and leave a good feedback for me to keep me on this site. Kind Regards

This is a link to the download site for Toshiba drivers. Select the model of your laptop and click Go to retrieve a list of available drivers. Before doing this, however, you need to be certain of the model number of your laptop. Equium is the make of toshiba desktop computers and A60 is the model number for a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Look on the bottom of your laptop for a label that will have the exact model number you need then select that on the website.
