I had the same problem and found the solution in a ubuntu forum. Although I use ubuntu, I am currently using windows and oddly enough the solution is same for both platforms. Just change your mouse settings to stop using numeric keypad on your keyboard as mouse. In windows 10, type "Ease of Access mouse settings". Turn OFF "Use numeric keypad to move mouse around the screen". And that should fix it.
please check for a the ( Fn) key which is found next to the left side ctrl marked by a blue colour. cleck to see if this is jammed as only by holding the fn key down will the alphabets change to numerical. If the fault is persisting again open your keyboards settings and check for default settings. Also try to reinstall the drivers or else restore you computer to an earlier good restore point by clicking on control panel, select back up /restore. I hope this clears your fault. Good day.

I don't think there is a solution for this, this is by design
Probably on your friend's keypad there are only numbers and no arrow functions on 2 4 6 and 8?
