Doesn't matter, as long as its SAE 10w-30. The only difference is, is the brand. All oil is the same.

I have a Poulan Pro - Briggs/Stratton 6.25. It ran really well and when i added oil (starting to think the wrong kind - sae 10w30 from gas station) it has continued to blow white smoke and then it sort of...

Yes,but do not drain it all off.It sounds like there may be too much oil in it.Drain some of the oil and start it again to see if that fixes the smoke.30 wt oil is ok to use in your mower.

We have a 550 pro series and it didn't come with a maual and we were wondering what type of oil to put in it. The model number is PR550N22SHX.

I would suggest using Briggs and Stratton 10w-30 oil. If this is not the correct engine manufacturer for your unit then I would suggest using that manufacturer's oil. But a 10w-30 oil that is used in air cooled engines should work ok.

How do i clean the air filter for my poulan pro 550 series

You can only clean it if it has a replaceable (fabric-type) filter...If it is paper, it is disposable and will have to be replaced if bad.

Engine started smoking real bad, it still starts

Could be just a head gasket, also could be rings. Could also be oil in the gas or bad gas overall. Empty out the gas, change the oil, and try again. If it does the same thing take it to service shop.
