Yes,but do not drain it all off.It sounds like there may be too much oil in it.Drain some of the oil and start it again to see if that fixes the smoke.30 wt oil is ok to use in your mower.
I would suggest using Briggs and Stratton 10w-30 oil. If this is not the correct engine manufacturer for your unit then I would suggest using that manufacturer's oil. But a 10w-30 oil that is used in air cooled engines should work ok.
Could be just a head gasket, also could be rings. Could also be oil in the gas or bad gas overall. Empty out the gas, change the oil, and try again. If it does the same thing take it to service shop.
