Question about Mastercool Portable Air Conditioner

Installed a replacement motor for a portable, MMB10C. The motor is an MMB10A. The salesman said they used the same motor. The capacitor is different and there are no instructions. Trying to figure out how to set it up. This capacitor has two sets of 4 prongs. How and where do the 2 wires connect?

The 4 prongs per side are all the same. Just make sure one wire goes to one of the connectors on the left group of 4, and the other goes to one of the connectors on the right group of 4.

Where did you get the motor and what did it cost?

Does it make a difference if my spa replacement motor only has one hump not sure what it's for and the original I'm replacing has two humps?

Under the hump, is a capacitor. So that two hump is a motor that has two capacitors. I would suggest getting a like replacement.

Fuse keeps blowing on my Whynter portable ac

Is your compressors motor capacitor replaceable? I know that on a split system, a dead capacitor (typically a 35uF) can cause increased current draw, to the point of blowing fuses, though I've never had to replace one on a portable unit. I usually replace them with a 30uF capacitor, roughly the size of a "200ml can of softdrink".

Indoor fan barely turning

the three post capacitor has c for line voltage in, the f or fan is for the outdoor motor, and com or comp goes to start winding compressor.youll have to follow wires from indoor motor to find capacitor. to find wires to outdoor motor to capacitor you have line voltage and capacitor wires .look for schematic it would help or send colors of wires from both motors and compressor common, start .run.

Have a Porter Cable 175 PSI, 25 gallon upright compressor. When you flip the switch, the motor buzzes, but does not start the compressor. The cylinders are free when hand turning. After a couple of...

On these larger compressors, the motor that turns the compressor,

will have one or two capacitors, the capacitor in conjunction with the

motor gives the compressor that extra push or torque that is required

to get it going. if the capacitor goes out, the compressor will not work,

the motor may work but will not have the strength to turn over the compressor..

depending on the size motor, it may be mounted on top, on the side or

even in a juntion box attached to the compressor, if you have to replace one

i recommend powering down or unplugging compressor and handle the

capacitor carefully, use insulated tools or gloves, a capacitor is like a battery

it will hold a charge, but like a battery it can be discharged, the only difference

with a battery and a capacitor, on a capacitor you can have thousands of volts.

it can be replaced just handle it safely, good luck!

The motor is very loud and dust is coming out. I was told (by a vacuum salesman) that bagless vacuums only last two years and that it would cost more to repair than to replace. Do you think this is true?

Depends on how often you use the vacuum, but I don't think the salesman is too far off the mark. Personally, I'd stay away from Hoover based on feedback I've read from others about poor quality.

Lower fan motor not working

try to help the fan start with a screwdriver. If it starts, you likely need to replace the capacitor. However, sometimes this does not work and you will still need to replace the motor. If the motor is bad in one spot it may work and not start when it stops on the bad spot.

Whirlpool portable AC, compressor works, but no exhaust fan

there are 3 possiblities
  1. something obstructing the lower fan motor (or exhaust motor)
  2. bad fan capacitor
  3. or bad motor
to check any of these you will need to disassemble the unit to get to the blower. there are several screws located at various points on the plastic housing covering the unit. Once removed you should be able to check for motor obstructions visually. for checking the motor and capacitor you will need a volt/ohm meter and ideally a capacitor checker. you could try to spin start the motor while it is powered up this could be a possible sign of a bad capacitor if it will start when you do this or if the motor will spin freely while powered down and will not spin start when powered up. I know that is kind of confusing but its how they work. GO FIGURE.  thanks Peyton
