Factory reset for an optiplex260 home computer

So, you can find an answer on google, here it is for example -
If you need reset CMOS, then -
The CMOS on the Optiplex GX260 desktop computer from Dell powers the motherboard when the computer is unplugged to store configurations such as the system date and time. You can reset the CMOS by removing, then replacing, the CMOS battery. The battery, however, is not easily accessible because it is on the motherboard. You need to open the computer to access the motherboard. Make sure to touch a piece of metal to discharge any static electricity before touching any of the insides of the computer to prevent damage.

If you wish recovery operation system (Windows) then -
If you did not format your drive, just click the F2 key at startup, and follow the prompts.
Dell will restore your system.
This is the "secret" restore function for Dell computers.
You're very welcome

I have a Dell Desktop GX620 with 1 gb Ram, 250 GB HDD and Pentium D Processor. Whenever I use the System, it will start and then after a proper shut down. I will start the system again, the three beep...

Here is a link to a manual for this computer.

Look where it states Diagnostics lights and see if the light patterns in the back panel lights match any on the list. It might help you on pin pointing your issue. If it is a memory issue and you have already replaced it then it is the motherboard.

Will a dell gx280 motherboard fit into a gx260 (dell) case?

If it is a slim gx260 case, it might not. If it is the wide case, it will, but the two motherboards have different power supplies. You will need to use a gx280 power supply to power it on. However, you can use a gx270 motherboard in a gx260 case without changing the power supply.

Hope this helps!

Orange power switch light Dell Gx260

Gx260-Gx280 have a known issue with the motherboard capaciators. Take a look at the capaciators on the motherboard and check if any look like they have bludges at the top particularly around the memory banks. If any of them look like this the motherboard most likely needs to be replaced.

Dell Computer Refurbished Optiplex GX260

from what I can tell you can use NORTHWOOD CPUS or POWERLEAP modified cpus on the GX260 but not prescott. as these are incompatible

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/ug/specs.htm#1110653 would suggest 400 or 533 based P4s

using Powerleap's configurator http://www.powerleap.com
it appears that it is possible to use an Intel P4 3.06GHz 533MHz 478pin 512K Northwood CPU w/Hyper-threading OEM

Orange Light permanently on motherboard. PC won't start

1. motherboards for atx form factor pc's are powered even when the computer is off, particularly if you leave the computer plugged in to wall outlet... you better do not work on you computer while power cable is still connected to both, your pc and the wall outlet..

2. I found this thread that may be helpful, it may be the motherboard may have gone bad, cmos is corrupted or something may not be seated properly...it could also be one of these: Bad CPU, BAD ram, Bad power supply.. read the thread for details:
