Question about Panasonic TH-50PX75U Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

Picture is fine for 20 mins to 3hrs, then dark areas become red speckels. After turning unit off for a while, cycle begins again. I was told this is a "Pixel storm". Is this common to Panasonic plasma units and is there a reso?

This is common to all old plasmas, the vertical scan module isn't getting enough power.
Long story short - you're going to need to remove the back panel of your plasma tv, turn some knobs, and watch your annoying pixel storm slowly dissipate.
What you're looking for are little knobs that control various voltages. Most are these are shaped to be turned with a Philips head, and are sometimes marked with little clicks around them like a clock. If you get a flashlight and look, there's a description printed on the circuit board that tells which voltage that particular knob controls. Almost all of the tv's i've heard of being fixed need to have the VSCAN, or vertical scan adjusted. Make the adjustments in small steps and wait for a result.

If the OSD has display and after a min goes dark that monitor has 2 possible problem. 1. bad electrolytic capacitor from secondary power supply to inverter area or fault semiconductors around inverter area. 2. Bad CCFL or fluorescent lamp of lcd panel it may be reddish color.

2007 Sony KDL52XBR TV with blurred display for 20 min then fine

This is a known issue with the unit that you have. It is called an LCD tab bonding defect. If you want to try to repair it, you need to get the unit apart so that you can access the edge of the lcd panel. Power it on and observe the picture and then press the edges of the display and see if you can locate the point that the edge has the defect. If you can locate that point then you have 2 options, Uncovering that point as best that you can and using a heat gun to attempt to reflow the connections OR you can find something to clamp that point and hope that it holds, otherwise you are going to have to pay for a new screen. You cannot order it yourself because they wont ship to you.

After losing electricity while the tv was on, the picture now has a circle in the middle which is fine but the outer areas are discolored..mostly green. Everything else works fine..just the bad coloring on...

You can't do that without a demagnatizing coil (degausse coil). Try leaving the set unplugged for 2-3hrs and try again.
see explanation below:

Magnetized The set is probably magnetized and needs degaussing (demagnetizing). All CRT type TV's have an internal demagnetizing circuit that is engaged when the set is first turned on after being off for the day.
If this circuit is working then you sometimes hear a "bonk" sound (about 1/2 a second long when the set is first turned on. If this circuit isn't working the set will become magnetized over time and will have to be degaussed using a degauss coil available at a TV repair shop (cost aprox. $35.00) and you should have the circuit checked at the same time. A set will also become magnetized if a large speaker (magnet) or motor is close to the TV. Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

My 32" LG takes about 3hrs to get a picture when turned on

Most likely you have capacitors in the power supply that have dried out or as we say vented. If your handy and want to replace the power supply I suggest " ". If not, then take into your local service center for an estimate first.

I had the same problem. Turns out,( and I didn't believe it when I was told) but, my problem turned out to be cheap (inferiour) plugs and wired. I was reccomended to use NKG plugs and Borg-Warner wires.

No Picture

Did you have color problems in past? Most of these sets have convergence problems. Amps goes out. But you should have seen some type of distortion from color, red, blue, green. If no color problems then maybe vertical ouput out or horizontal output bad.
