I have an Acer Z5700 that has started freezing at random times for no apparent reason. I have tried to re-install to factory state, all to no avail. I even get the blue screen at times in Safe Mode.

The blue screen should give you pointers as to what the problem is, have a look in the event viewer to see if there any recurring faults, from what you describe I would suggest either the hard drive or the ram needs replacing.

that blue screen is BSOD- Blue Screen Of Death. this screen usually comes due to memory clashes or clashing hardware even due to driver related problems. you can try removing any newly installed drivers or hardware.

''no signal'' message on blue screen after watching for 10-30 min

First try another signal input like a DVD player or other source, is the signal displayed ok? Then you have lost the signal on one input from whatever the device is.

you need to make a note of that blue screen you say you get when the computer stops working.. those are know as the infamous blue screen of death (no kidding) or as ms call it stop error screens..

make a note of the stop error code you get on the screen.. it's way to fast for you to see it.. you may be able to see what the stop error code is by going into the event viewer (as long as you have checked to have this events reported to event viewer in system properties> advance tab and start up and recovery area.).. look inthe event viewer (start>right click my computer>manage>event viewer) and look for system events.. you should see a white x inside a a red circle.. look for those error events and look for the error code.. it should give you something like 0x????????? post that error here.. or google it, it may give you an idea of what may be wrong. at this stage it could be software related or hardware related?

did you install a device recently? the driver is very comun problem that may give you a bsod if it's critical.

Blue screen

the video ribbon is probably not secure in its connector and as you open the door it is pulled from the simple housing it connects to these cameras are absolutely terrible the lcd screens will always fail because of a design defect in the ribbon and its routing and fastening.Inside the lcd screen to secure it they use electrical tape as a fastener so ridiculous.
