SOURCE: Denon AVR-1508 Receiver problems - cuts off and goes into protect mode

Usually when the unit runs for a while before shutting down there are two possibilities:

1) There is a small amount of DC current present that effectively heats up the speaker coils enough to cause a temporary short circuit that kicks in the protect circuit.
2) The output transistors or bias transistors are sensitive to heat and breaking down again causing the protect circuit to kick in.

A few experiments to try:

1) Does the time to shutdown change depending upon the volume level?
2) Is there any background noise coming from the speakers? Listen to a blank tape for example. Is there a hum or any other noise that you would not normally expect?
3) If you have a DC voltmeter, check for any voltage between the speaker lines.

Update this and we'll try to narrow this down.

SOURCE: I have a Harman Kardon AVR 235 Receiver that go's into Protect

To avoid making the avr go into protect mode when you power up your Hafler 4000 that is connected in the avr's pre-out, you must power up the set up in the correct sequence.

1. Turn off your avr
2. Connect Hafler 4000 to the avr's pre-out it it is not yet connected
3. Turn on your Hafler 4000. The avr will not go into protect mode becasue of the transients from the Hafler because it is still not powered on.
4. Turn on you avr. There should be no more transients from the Hafler at this stage unless it is not functioning correctly, so the avr shouldno longer go into protect mode.

SOURCE: can I conect harman Kardon avr 230 to apple tv

Yes, although it (AVR) does not support HDMI only component video.

Connect the audio to the receiver and the video directly to the TV if you have inadequate video inputs, or want to take advantage of the HDMI.

When i turn on my harmon kardon avr 165 it shows ''Protect'' and then it turns off again?? what can i do :)

I would try disconnecting the speakers, then turn it on. If protect still shows with no speakers connected, then it needs to go to the repair shop- Might be a blown power transistor.

Can I connect 4 ohms speakers on the AVR 230? Thanks

Hello
Output impedence of 95% of Herman Kardon sets are desighed for 6 Ohms speaker. There is an output speaker sensor circutary it it which sense the impedence of the connected speaker. it is a built in feedback circuit and is ment for protection for both speakers and power amplifier section of the amp. If you connect a 4 Ohms speaker, the set will sense it and there is a chance to get it tripped as you increase the volume. Just connect and check. Advance the volume of the set very gently. If tripping occurs or it just cut off as soon as switch ON, never connect it again. OK.

Protect flashing on screen

Output amp needs repair or you have shorted speaker wire or bad speaker. Disconnect speakers. If still going into protect mode after turning reciever back on then have amp repaired.

Harman Kardon AVR 230 Receiver Volume

You are overdriving the amp, they were never meant to be played at that volume despite the fact they will go to that level. Your only hope is to buy more efficient speakers or a stronger amp.
