Question about Fisher and Paykel GWL11 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Screeching noise after water starts going in

The washer starts just fine. After about 45 seconds it sounds like a selenoid clicks and the screeching starts. It appears to be coming from the top left side of the washer as you face it. We then stop the washer, wait a few seconds and restart. Half the time it continues in it's cycle OK, the other half the time the screeching resumes. After a few start/stops with the screeching going on, it stops and the cycle resumes OK. Model GWL 11, serial number BYN631053
So what part needs to be replaced or adjusted? Thanks for the help.

    Luisa,

Here is the answers you asked for.

    On spin no noise.

hot fill, cold off, no sound, water goes in

cold fill, hot off, no sound and no water coming into the machine.

  • panther516 Jul 12, 2010

Luisa, two valves. The serial number on them is 33190058.

Can you tell me how to remove the cold water valve? It appears they both are mounted in a mixing chamber and the whole thing comes out as a unit.

And where do I get replacement parts? We have a super commercial plumbing supply place near our house and I know they either have the unit in stock or could order it.

    Thanks for the help.

    Chris

Hi just read your posting. Now put the machine to a spin cycle and push start,Does the noise happen in this cycle? If the noise doesn't happen then try a cold water fill but turn the hot tap off first. If the noise still doesn't happen then try a hot water fill but turn the cold water off first. This noise sounds like one of your water valves is faulty. Please reply with additional information on the questions and I am sure we can rectify this fault.

Hi just read your posting. Now from the information on your second posting it seems like your cold water valve is faulty. As I understand from your posting with the hot water tap off and the cold water tap on and you have selected a cold fill, when you push the start button the machine does not fill and there is no noise. Is this correct? If it is then the problem is your water valve or your motor controller. But with the noise you heard initially then my best guest on what is faulty would be your cold water valve.Would you like me to guide you step by step in the testing and replacement of this valve? If so please reply.Looking forward to your reply.

Hi Chris just read your posting. Now remove the top 2 screws at the back of the top panel and remove the top panel gently as there is still a wire harness attached to this panel. The harness is for your display module. Now to the left you will see the water valves. Are there 2 water valves or 5.Depending on the serial number depends which water valves are in your machine.Sorry to ask you this last question but with this information I can be more accurate in guiding you throe the repair. Please reply as I am looking forward to your reply.

Hi Chris.Just read your last posting. Now remove the inlet hoses to the machine and where the hoses attached to the machine there should be 2 screws holding the plate that locks the valves in place.Remove the screws and pull the plate up and out.Now on the mixing chamber they sometimes have a couple of screws holding it to the frame, remove these and also disconnect the wires to the water valves. The valves and chamber should now come away from the machine with a little bit of wriggling.Once the chamber and valves are away from the frame you can now pull the cold valve from the chamber. Now these valves are 24 volts so if you go to the plumbing place take the valve with you so they can match it up exactly or ring a FISHER AND PAYKEL PARTS DISTRIBUTOR and they could definitely be able to help you. Please reply for further help to put the machine back together.Looking forward to your reply.

COLD WATER IS RUNNING SLOW INTO WASHER. THERE IS PLENTY OF FLOW IN THE HOSE AND NO KINKS AND THE SCREEN IS CLEAN. HOT WATER FLOW IS FINE. WASHING MACHINE MAKES A GROANING NOISE WHEN COLD WATER IS ENTERING.

Based on your description, the selenoid is bad.
The same device feeds both cold and hot water - so locate your machine model number and year.. and look up the replacement incoming water selenoid part number. You will need to purchase it and replace it.

If your machine is under warranty, call their Customer Service line and report the water flow/noise problem.

Please let us know your findings...

GE Model WHDSR209D2WW makes unbearable loud metal Screeching noise

ppr78, couple of things you want to check. The bottom panel on these GE's are pretty flimsy. I have run into a couple where during agitation the bottom of the motor housing would rub against the bottom panel making a terrible noise. You need to remove the front panel by pusing on the clips on the left and right side just under the top. The front panel will pull out. During agitation, take your foot and push down on the bottom panel and see if the screech goes away. I have also found the suspension rod support sockets at the top dry out and make a screeching noise. You also want to check your belt and pully and see if the noise is from there. Check these things first...Catriver..post back.

Noise

Eileen, If the screeching is only happening on the fill and not during agitation or spin, I think we are safe to rule out the belt, pulley and bearing. Remove the fill hoses from the back of the washer and check to see if you have sand or gunk caught in the screens of the valve itself. If they are clear sounds like the water passing through the valve is making the noise. Another thing to check is the water pressure in the house. It should be around 55 psi., 75 psi max. I have seen it as high as 120psi with a bad regulator. This will cause noise and all kinds of problems. The part number for the fill valve is 131389300, according to the model posted....Catriver...post back.
