Does anyone have any pointers for me for screen printing with fabric inks?

  1. The screen frame is usually detached from the base and used alone. Usually two (2) people should work on the printing process - one holding the screen frame tightly against the fabric, and the other doing the printing.
  2. On articles like T-shirts, a piece of foamboard, cardboard or paper must be put inside each garment to act as a barrier.
  3. To improve the lubricity (slipperiness) of the ink, you may add the Transparent Base. To slow drying or to prevent screen clogging, add the Retarder Base (1-2 tbs. to 8 oz. of ink).
  4. Wash-up of screens and tools must be done immediately after use. If they are allowed to dry on your screen or tools, they are difficult or impossible to remove.
  5. After the fabric ink dries on the fabric, set a household iron at the highest dry heat (no steam) that will not scorch the fabric and with a cloth or paper between the iron and printed material, iron on each side for 3 - 5 minutes. This will make the ink withstand repeated washings.

The printer makes a noise while printing. I lifted the cover and it's very dirty underneath (black ink all over). I think cleaning would help, but how?

The best way to remove the ink is to wet cotton balls or some sort of fine stitched fabric (old shirt) with rubbing alcohol. Make sure the fabric/cotton balls are not dripping with alcohol just moist enoguh to help remove the ink/toner. Also, you could try cleaning wipes made for electronics or lenses. Just be careful not to scratch or break any internal components.

5740 acts like it's printing, but no ink on paper

Since it's trying to print, the printer probably just needs cartridges. The ink can dry in the nozzles with age and disuse and clog them.

Before you splurge on new cartridges, try getting them going. (This assumes there is some ink left in them.) Take the cartridges out of the printer, wet a layer of paper towels about 1/8 inch thick, and whack the nozzles against the wet surface a few times. Check every few whacks to see if you're getting any ink flow. Repeat until you see some ink on the towels and on the nozzles, or until you decide it's futile. Often this dislodges the clogged ink and opens the nozzles, and buys some extra printing time. But you're probably going to want new ones soon anyway.

MP830, how to retrieve faxes in memory to my PC

-

- A margin appears
on printouts.
2 B Paper feed
Improper paper
feeding:
- Multi-feeding
- Skewed paper
feeding
- Paper jam
- Paper feeding from the
ASF
- Plain paper
- Highest print speed
(Custom setting to 5)
- In the high temperature
and high humidity
environment
- In the low temperature
and low humidity
environment
- With the maximum
amount of paper set (13
mm)
In the high temperature
and high humidity
environment, paper
becomes wavy; in the
low temperature and
low humidity
environment, paper
curls significantly.
When the maximum
amount of paper is set
in the ASF, and if the
paper-return tab fits in a
wave or curl of the
paper, the tab slips and
does not catch paper
properly, causing paper
feed problems.
- Reduce the amount of
paper set in the ASF to
half (approx. 5 mm
high).
- Multiple sheets of
paper feed at the
same time.
- Paper feeds at an
angle.
- A paper jam
occurs.
3 C Print results
Skewed paper
feeding (at the
level of +/- 1%)
- Paper feeding from the
ASF
- Credit Card size
Since coaxial tolerance
between the pinch roller
and the LF roller, which
determines the paper
feed alignment, is
0.2mm, skewed paper
feeding can occur.
However, according to
the field data of current
models, the skewness
level caused by the
coaxial tolerance of
0.2mm is within the
criteria of +/- 1%, thus
the phenomenon is left
as is.
- Align the paper guide to
the paper edge tighter
than usual.
- Paper feeds at an
angle.
- A margin appears
on printouts.
4 A Print results
Soiling on the
back side of paper
(lines or streaks
parallel to the
paper feed
direction)
- After continuous
borderless printing of
small sized paper (such
as 4 x 6), when a larger
sized paper (such as A4)
is printed.
- With Photo Paper Plus
Double Sided or
postcards, the
phenomenon is likely to
be noticeable and to be
complained of by users,
as printing is performed
on both sides of such
paper.
In borderless printing,
printing is performed to
the size slightly larger
than the paper size, and
ink off the paper is
absorbed by the platen's
ink absorber. Absorbed
ink may attach to the
platen rib(s) after
several dozen sheets are
printed, causing soiling
at the leading edge of
paper or on the back
side of paper.
1. Perform Bottom plate
cleaning (from the
MP driver or via the
operation panel) up to
3 times*1.
2. If soiling on the paper
still remains after 3
times of Bottom plate
cleaning, wipe the
platen rib(s) and their
surroundings with a
cotton swab.
- Paper gets
smeared.
- The back side of
paper gets
smeared.
Soiling on paper in
automatic duplex
printing (lines or
streaks
perpendicular to
the paper feed
direction)
- Automatic duplex
printing (Photo Paper
Plus Double Sided,
postcards, plain paper)
On the rib(s) inside the
sheet feed unit used for
duplex printing, ink
mist may accumulate,
smearing paper.
Temporary operational
solution:
Cancel automatic duplex
printing, and manually
print each side of paper.
Cleaning by user:
1. Perform Bottom plate
cleaning (from the
MP driver or via the
operation panel) up to
3 times*1.
- Paper gets
smeared.
- The back side of
paper gets
smeared.
- Even after Bottom
plate cleaning
was performed,
and the platen
ribs were cleaned
with cotton swab,
paper gets
smeared.

Black ink won't appear on page. full ink

try taking the paper tray out and slamming the tray back in -- not to kill it but to jar it. Or maybe smacking the front of the machine. This will open the bar flap. Sounds kooky but try it.

Black colour ?

Thats because it's using the other colours to mix what it thinks to be shades of grey. Due to the black ink being pigment based and the colours inks dye base, when printing onto glossy paper the machine will use the colour dye based inks to make up black.
If you were to print on plain paper, set to greyscale, then the machine will just use the black as the pigment ink sits onto of the plain paper and will not run should the paper get wet.  With glossy paper the ink has to be absorbed into the paper ad the Black pigment ink will not do this so the machine will use the coloured inks.

Sucks but true.

No ink on page

Clean the contact in the housing area and on the ink cartriage. If that does not work buy a new cartriage. The ink probably dried up in the nozzles. You can place the ink cartriage on a wet paper towel water or alcohal and press the cartriage into the towel. If you see no ing replace.
