Question about Sharp Aquos LC-PD50U 50 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

I have an old Sharp LC-PD50U plasma monitor. I have never had an issue until now. The unit can be manually powered on, the fan runs for a few seconds, shuts off and then I get a flashing green power indicator, but no picture.

By removing the back panel, I was able to verify that there was an issue with the power supply. Good advice.

Hello,
You can fix this by opening the back cover of the television to check for dry soldering , if found resolder , but if otherwise also check for bulged capacitors and burnt resistors.
IF this solution did not work Power supply board have problems, just not dead yet.Replaced the power supply board, will solved this problems.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Hope this helpout....

We are trying to set up wii-through the dvr to play on Sharp LC-PD50U-unable to get it to work.

Connect the Wii directly to the TV either using the HDMI cable or the Hi def cable(5 RCA connectors) that come with the Wii. Then select the input number on the TV to get a picture .

No Power

You will have to remove the back cover to get to the fuse. Just follow the power cord/power jack and it will lead you to the fuse. The fuse will be located on the power supply board. If the fuse is blown, you could be dealing with a short circuit in the set.

Wii remote hit the screen and tv picture will not work? Are the fixable?

Not likely. The screen is the most expensive part of the TV. It CAN be replaced but a new TV will probably be cheaper.

Sharp flat screen no sound after moving it from downstairs to up

Try the main resets in the back by the a/v in and out jacks. If this does not work, call Sharp Customer Service and tell them that you already did the resets. There is a known problem with a heat dissipation pad for the onboard speakers and they will send a repair tech to replace the pad for free, even if you are out of warranty. At least that was the case with my LC-32D6U. My understanding is that a surround sound system would bypass the problematic part of the sound board which is why yours worked in your basement.

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.

Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

On LCD Pay particular attention at inverter and power board, power board can be inspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with a multimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need to read voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem

On Plasma, test Sustain (Ysus/Zsus) / Buffer boards , cables to plasma, digital board and power board.

On Rear Projection : check lamp, lamp ballast, power board, and convergence.

On CRT TVs, check ballast , flyback transformer, CRT, Tuner, Convergence.

Using the TV as a computer monitor

Hi,

I am assuming that you have installed the cable to the appropriate jack/connectors on the back of the TV and that of the PC.

If you are using a laptop, you would need to press on the Fn + F? keys of the laptop to cycle through the different settings such as: laptop's display only, laptop & TV displays and TV display only. The F? key would be one in your laptop designated to engaged/enable external monitor (TV). Normally, it would have a monitor icon.

Please verify that your PC's screen resolution is 1366 x 768 or lower.

If you are using a desktop, you need to engage/enable the dual/twin view in Display Properties. Additionally, the TV must be powered on first before the desktop is booted.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

No power

It could be a fuse and be aware the fuse is on the power supply. It most likely is a failed power supply.

Display powers of with power up of AVC

This is the problem with my LC-37HV4U. I plug in the AVC and the tv/monitor and I get both red power lights (not blinking) but no green lights, sound, or picture. I mean the tv screen stays black! It seems like their is no communication between the AVC and the monitor. I thought at least the screen would light up when the power light came on and being it has it's own power source. This tv is driving me nuts!! Can anyone please help?? Thank you.
