Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

PC shutting off during startup

I have a system running Vista Home premium. Lately when I start the computer up it shuts off during the first 20 seconds. At first I thought power supply but when I booted from last good config. I was able to keep it running. It ran for about a half hour until I went to check memory on a flash drive. As soon as I touched the mouse the computer shut off again. I am convinced it is software related. I tried to reinstall the operating system last night but when I get to the screen that says administrator and password, I cant go any farther. I never remember putting in a password for that. Emachines told me I need to order restore discs even though the operating system restore is on my hard drive partician. Any help would be appreciated!!

Downloaded infected program

You will have to push F2 or F12 when you boot up, and get into the Startup menu. From there, you will have to restore your system to a previous date (if you're running XP or Windows 7, you can do this). Otherwise, your bios may be infected and have to be reflashed, but a computer shop will have to help you with that, unless you're pretty technical.

Computer freezes after bios screen on every restart.

One thing you could check is what order your computer is booting from. CD drive hard drive then other. Should be hard drive first. Go into the bios to do that. If you hold the power button down for 5 to 10 seconds the machine should physically shut down rather than unplugg. The unplug thing sounds like its in the power settings. But I've never heard of power settings being connected to bootup except for a password. Anyway a wild guess is check the bios bootup order.

My windows can't check for updates (windows vista home premium). it's showing error code 80244019

Press Win+R, type 'services.msc' and press Enter. Respond to the UAC prompt. Check that Background Intelligent Transfer Service is started and its startup type is 'Automatic.' (It can also be Automatic (Delayed Start).) If it is not started, right-click on it and select Start. Scroll down to Windows Update to make sure that it is started and it startup type is 'Automatic' or 'Automatic (Delayed Start).' If it is not started, right-click on it and select Start. If you had to start either service, try to run Windows Update again by clicking on Start -> All Programs -> Windows Update.
