NEC NDT-40 DVD/VCR how to turn off "child lock"

NEC NDT-40 DVD/VCR has "child lock" engaged - key symbol showing in display window on unit. How do I turn this off so that the unit can be operated directly rather than only by the remote control?

Thank you for any help you are able to give me.

Bottom oven stopped working there is a key symbol showing on the panel what is wrong ?

There are a few reasons for this. One is the most obvious and that is the child lock switch needs to be engaged to unlock. Some models call it panel lock.
Turning the panel lock on and off:
To turn the panel lock on, press and hold the Panel Lock key for four seconds. The Panel Lock symbol will appear in the display.
To turn the panel lock off, press and hold the Panel Lock key for four seconds. The message in the display will disappear.

By parental control I don't know if you mean child lock. If that's the case you should be able to turn it off by pressing child lock on the remote control until off shows in the display window.
