Remove the REVERSE-THREAD screw at the bottom of the chuck. Set the clutch collar to the highest setting, and set the gear to the slowest setting if this drill has a 2 speed transmission. Remove the power source! Get the biggest allen wrench you can fit in the end of the chuck(the shortest leg) and tighten the chuck down around it, allowing the jaws to rest and tighten on the flats of the wrench. Lay the drill on its side(chuck toward you, handle to the left, and allen wrench to the left, horizontal to the deck. Then with a hammer(soft hammer if you care about the allen wrench) quickly and deliberately hit the allen wrench in an attempt to cause the allen wrench to spin counter clockwise. Let me know if this works for you!

1/2 hammer drill and the chuck is broke what do I do to get. New drill or fix

Assuming that the drill is still operating, I suggest that you get a replacement chuck, To remove the old chuck, insert the chuck key in the cogs on the left hand side as you hold the drill facing outwards, then using a hammer tap the chuck key firmly so that the chuck will revolve anti clockwise. Replacing the chuck us the reverse of the above procedure.

Require a 10mm and a 13mm Male-fitting Keyless Chucks

I suggest that you do not proceed, Keyless chucks can be problematic especially if dust /debris from material being drilled gets into the chuck. I have had to remove the Keyless chuck from my B&D drill and replace it with a keyed chuck- no problems since.

How to change the chuck on 18 volt cordless drills

Set the drill to reverse. Hold the chuck, press the trigger and open the drills chuck to it wide open position. Now,, take the correct size allen wrench and insert it into the back of the chuck to remove the screw. Turn the screw clockwise to remove it. Notice I said clockwise, just the opposite of what you might think. Hold the chuck with your hand or a pair of large vise grips and press the trigger to unscrew the chuck from the drill. Rotate it counterclockwise to remove it from the drill. Reverse the procedure to install the new chuck.

I have a very old 3/8'' elecric drill, I think it ia a Skil, The key chuck does not work properly and I want to replace it. How do I remove the old chuck?

If it's anything like their other drills, there is a safety screw with left-hand threads inside chuck.

  1. Turn it clockwise until loose.
  2. Then insert the short arm of a 3/8" hex wrench and tighten.
  3. Strike long arm of wrench sharply counter-clockwise and chuck should loosen to unthread from spindle.

Removing chuck

Open chuck jaws all the way open you should see a screw or a allen screw inside the chuck, remove the screw an voila off comes the chuck. You may have to rap it with a mallet ot a piece of wood if the drill is real old.

I have a thor electric drill. I am unable to remove the chuck on the drill. can you help?

Open up the old chuck all the way and there is a screw down in the middle of the chuck, unless it is missing. The screw is left-handed threads. Remove the screw. Take a large allen wrench. Tighten down in the old chuck. The chuck is right handed threads. Lay the tool down on its side. Take a hammer and hit the other end of the allen wrench several times until the chuck comes off (some of them are on very tight). If it doesn't come off, then spray WD-40 down inside the chuck and let it sit overnight or for a few hours and then try it again.
Good luck!

Changing a drill chuck

If this is a cordless drill open chuck jaws and remove the retaining screw (LH trheads), switch the clutch to drill only and shift gear selector to low. Insert a bent handle allen wrench about the same size as chuck (to keep from flexing) put chuck on workbench or block of wood and have the wrench about 30 degrees and strike the key counterclockwise to remove. You might have to hit a couple times but usually they will loosen up quickly. To install just reverse above. Let me know if I can help further.
