Go into control panel and check your display settings. change them to a larger setting if this does not work, try different monitor. Old monitor may not go high enough resolution for your video card. Second try you should disconnect your display and check the video connection pins to see if they are bent or missing.

My dell inspiron pc 530 desktop monitor does not come on at all when starting

Check in order:
1 Is the monitor power line connected?
No? Connect it
2 Is the monitor switched on (bezel switch with telltale light)?
No? Find the switch and toggle it.
3 Is the data cable (VGA or whatever) properly connected?
No? Connect it.
4 Does another monitor work on this system?
No? You have bad graphics on your PC. Replace card or PC.

If you answer YES to all those questions, then your monitor is defective. If so your most likely problem is a failed back light. Consider replacing the monitor - the cost of a service call goes a long way to the $100+ you might spend on a replacement.

You may try another graphic card, it is quite possible the card may not compatible with board, also push the RAM stick to place them properly may the RAM gone dislocated.

Monitor intermittently goes blank, esp. after computer has been running for some time. Turning monitor off and on solves for several minutes before it happens again. Bad video card, or monitor problem?

If another monitor is available, then I'd suggest trying one and see if the issue follows the monitor. OR Try this monitor on another system.

If neither option is available, boot the system in the Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and see if the issue occurs in the safe mode. If it does, then I'd say the monitor is the more likely failure point.

If still under warranty, contact Dell, if not, then generally cheaper to replace a monitor than to pay for repairs.

Comp. powers on, shuts down three times then goes into powersave

You may want to check the power supply fan whether it works properly or not. Also, you may need to check your BIOS setup if you had done anything with it.

The display driver on my Inspiron 530 keeps failing, the screen freezes/glitches or goes black, then starts functioning again about 5-10seconds afterwards. This can happen several times in a few hours,...

This could be a problem with your monitor, your vga cable or your graphics card, or a combination of those so you need to eliminate them. It would be useful to test your monitor on another machine if possible to eliminate the monitor and cable. Generally Dell also have on their CD's a diagnostics utility that you can boot into to test for example the graphics card. By a process of elimination, you will pin point where the problem is. You could also double check your electrics..!!

Restarts or reboots screen reads "diskett 0 drive failure"

1024 X 768 is the ideal setting for a 17" Monitor. Are you still getting sound output despite the error message? If no sound then your integrated sound card has failed, you will have to install anew one in the PCI Slot, otherwise forget about the warning & keep listening. You could try visiting the Official website to see if any driver updates have been released till date and refresh the drivers(sound) installation...............sodeep
PS: Check your Floppy drive? If not working simply disconnect and likewise in the BIOS if REQUIRED.
