Question about HP Pavilion dv8000z Notebook

2 Answers

I have an older HP Pavilion dv8000z (ES184AV) PC Notebook. Recently, it crashed, as it has done in the past. I attempted to go through the steps to fix my laptop that I went through last time. ( This time, my laptop shut off a few minutes into the procedure. I've attempted to re-install my operating system numerous times, but my laptop usually shuts off before it's installed. A couple of times, the operating system was successfully installed, but when I rebooted my laptop after, it did not have the operating system installed. Every time I've tried to install the operating system since, my laptop shuts down within a matter of minutes. I've tried this with and without the battery. I'd like to know if this is salvageable; if there is something else that I can do or maybe replace a worn out part? Thank you

Its a laptop and like most (all)
the battery is NO GOOD>(shorted or sucking huge illegall currents_)
remove it now, and try your install.
bingo. ( in your case no bingo)
if not , new power pack time (correct sized)
or learn to use a voltmeter, my power shows 19vdc with powered on.
if the pack is bad, or wrong, (sized) it will overload,

all computers can be fixed. it's a matter of cost only. (and time)
be a wasted to scrap it for a bad $15 power pack no?

im trying to find your pc on

there are many possibles. (not a lot but will teach you)

  1. bad battery tops list , remove it, you did, next up....
  2. bad battery pack. (line wall wort etc bad or wrong one ,sized)
  3. bad HDD, sucking huge power overloading MOBO reg.
  4. remove HDD , power holds now? y/n BIOS holds screen?>
  5. Bad CD/DVC drive, remove it? ok now? same deal here.
  6. bad mobo. (shorts, anywhere on it , end to end. or its bad.
remove all RAM (DIMM), holds up power now and beeps like mad good
or shuts down, bad.

end LT 101 dead.

SOURCE: over Heating

Hi, Quite a hard problem to fix on a laptop, the laptop will need to be opened up, heatsink will need removed and new thermal paste will need to be applyed to the processor, also cooling fans will need to be tested, ok if you have worked on laptops before, but i would advise taking the laptop to a shop, if you do not have much knowledge of computer repairs with this fault.

Have a nice christmas

SOURCE: HP pavilion zd8000 start-up problem.

Try to unplug all the PCI cards and boot, if its still doing it check the ram. If its still doing it check to see if the power supply is good. If all that fails, It could be eather a bad mother board or bad processor.
