SOURCE: dell monitor in power save

rtillett, May not be "power save" problem! Possible internal component failure causing "black screen of death" symptom. What is "date of manufacture" from rear of unit? Unit could be 4-5 years old. retrevo .com lists as time to retire and buy new. You should see some video clips at YOUTUBE that show DIY owners/technicians that successfully refurbish these e172, e173 displays to help you decide to spend $20 or trade for new $200 (new unit) wide screen display. Also spand some time reading and following links you find in the fixya profiles of "budmrtn" "buddymc" "12fixlouie" that will help you decide fate of your e173fp unit. Please rate this response AFTER you do your research here and at YOUTUBE. After you discover the common power supply capacitor failure problem that plagues the entire lcd monitor / tv industry you will then be in a much better position to make decision. 12fixlouie

Without a PC you have no control over the power saving mode. You can't turn it off without one, that comes right from Dell.

My desktop monitor direct go in power save mode.so please solve it as soon as possible its urgent

power save mode indicates no input signal. Check the input signal with a known good monitor. if the signal is good then dell monitor is faulty. Power cycle (unplug the power then plug it back in) the monitor to reset to factory and if it still goes directly into power save mode the unit is faulty.

My monitor states its in power save mode.when i press any key, nothing seems to happen.

To bring the computer out of the power save mode press the "Windows" key once and release, wait one second, then press enter. The system should come out of power save mode. The Windows key is the key with the Microsoft Windows Symbol on it. Another solution would be to disable power management.
To disable power management, right click on the desktop, click on properties, screen saver, then Energy Savings Settings button.
Change all the settings to "Never", then click on "apply" and "ok". Power management has been disabled.

The setup menu on your monitor needs to be changed. On most monitors there are buttons which you press in sequence, go through these buttons and you will find a monitor mode which allows it to stay on permanently.

My LG flatiron W1943TB turns on, says analog power saving mode, goes black and then the power button flashes.. but the monitor is hooked up to my dell notebook bc my LCD died

Hi erin mckinle,
That is probably it's, uh, analog power saving mode. When the screen goes black and the power button flashes, make some mouse gestures or hit some keys that would not affect anything (try spacebar). That should bring up the screen. If you think it goes into power saving mode too fast, go to Control Panel --> Power Options, and change the values. Hope this helps.

My monitor shuts down after one second.

Dell monitors automatically go into power-save mode after a preset amount of time when the computer is inactive. The Dell monitor will go completely black, instead of showing a screensaver. This doesn't mean that your Dell computermag-glass_10x10.gif has shut down. Instead, this allows your monitor to essentially turn off until it's needed again. You can change how long it is before the Dell monitor goes into power-save mode by changing your display settings.
  1. Step 1 Press any key on your keyboard or move your mouse. Either will turn off power-save mode. Alternately, you can press the power button on your Dell computer tower or laptop.
  2. Step 2 Press any key a second time if the monitor goes from power-save to stand-by mode. Stand-by mode allows the screensaver to appear.
  3. Step 3 Enter your user name and password into the login prompt if your computer requires a login. Press "Enter" to begin using your Dell computer.
  4. Step 4 Change the display settings on your Dell monitor to prevent your monitor from going into power-save mode prematurely. Right-click anywhere on your desktop and choose "Properties." Click the "Screensaver" tab and press "Power." Beside "Turn off Monitor," choose a time amount from the drop-down list and press "Apply."
