The best thing would be to replace the compressor and see if it starts with the new one. If it doesn't, come back here for more troubleshooting.

    Pretty radical test!

I was wondering whether the unit is fused internally or even whether the compressor has a reset button?

The compressor is like a black box, there is little you can do to fix it. Also, it doesn't have a reset button since it doesn't need one. It's plain mechanics and if it's not turning on it's surely a physical malfunction or a connectors problem. I assumed you already checked for cut wires, rusted connectors and burned cables.

My condensor fan and compressor on my Carrier AC (Model# 38ckc036350) stopped working, so I replaced my capacitor and they both work fine now. The problem is my house won't cool down. There is c

Often after a repair has been made, the air conditioner will take hours to readjust back to normal. When the system has been off for to long, not only does the heat in the house rise, but so does the humidity, which has to be pulled out of the air first before it really starts dropping in temp. You could have a low charge on refrigerant, dirty filters, etc. More than once I have ran into things that were just coincidence after a repair that showed up. Since you just replaced the capacitor, I would make sure the fan motor is turning in the right direction and there is nice air flow coming out of the condenser, some times if one wire is wrong, it can cause it to spin backwards, which will work, but just barely. The air needs to be pulled through the coils, not pushed. Hope this helps!

I have a Carrier Air V air conditioner on which the compressor won't start. You can hear it try repeatedly, but no luck. The fan does work.

CHECK AMP DRAW IF ITS HIGH BAD COMPRESSOR WINDINGS, MAKE SURE YOUR GETTING PROPER VOLTAGE DOES CAP HAVE A RUN AND START SIDE CHECK BOTH. START CAP COULD BE BAD.

07 Santa fe air stoped working fan and heat fine compressor not engaged No signs of trouble noise

if the compressor is not engaging then check the fuses with a test light.if they are good then you will have to check the a/c relay in the relay box.if this is good then you might have a low freon level in the system that won`t allow the system to work.it could be a problem with the diode at the a/c compressor of the compressor itself maybe seized, even a car this new.

Compressor stopped working. Air handler works okay. Checked wiring in thermostat-that is fine. Air handler is not frozen up. Breaker shows fine on meter.

Hi,
Check for power out of the contactor...is the condenser fan running?? If so then the compressor should have power...could be the compressor capacitor...or a bad compressor.

Carrier Compressor Issues?

When you shut it off and back on it slugged the compressor if you turn it off and back on before the pressures equalize between the high and low sides it will slug the compressor and it will not run should let sit for five minutes or so before restarting. The humming is either the compressor making noise usually common for the compressor to make some noise or the fan motor bearings are getting bad on the outside unit. If the unit works normal probably not much you can do till it breaks if it is the compressor it is more economical to replace the whole unit if it is just the fan motor it is worth changing. You could take an amp draw on the fan motor and the compressor to see if the are within the limits on the name plate of the outside unit.

CARRIER AIRCONDITIONING HEATING/COOLING

Need to check the condensor fan. If the fan quit working this could lock out the unit so the compressor does not over heat.

Ac sytem blows strong air but its warm

If the compressor and fan work in the outside unit, and the fan inside (air handler) works, probably the system is low in refrigerant which means there's a leak that has to be fixed and then recharge the unit.

When unit starts the condensor fan only comes, not compressor

You need a new fan motor and the correct capacitors for your sydtem I think they are 35 or 45 5 cap. Try a hard start kit on compressor. Are you sure you have the cap wired correctly?Russ

Carrier Synergy 2000 Condenser fan does not turn on

the mfd is stamped on the side of the capacitor.Be careful to kill the power and to NOT touch the terminals. The capacitor is capable of holding a charge even after power is disconnected.

I have a carrier infinity system. On the thermostat it reads "sens error" where the outdoor temp is normally displayed. The inside unit is running but the outside unit is not. Any suggestions?

A burned or pitted contactor will/can cause a unit to not run. Outside fan. Just thinking out loud. Start with low voltage check at t.stat then check outside low volt. Set t.stat to on. If fan engages at least your transformer is good. Next set calling for cool. Drop t.stat 68-70. If nothing happens go outside and with a screwdriver depress the contactor in. If fan and compressor kicks in change the contactor. If contactor is pulled in check outside fan. Remove the wires from the compressor and see if the fan will run . If it does you have eliminated start components as good. The compressor has to be check. It needs to be ohmed out. Turn off power at disconnect. Pull the cover on the compressor. Check between pins; then pins to ground. Open or infinite is good.Have you checked fuses. Like small 3-5 amp fuses
