Windows Experience Index is calculated based on overall graphic handling capacity of your PC configuration which also covers gaming.

If your PC scores between a range of 3.0 - 3.9 on WEI you would get basic performance on high graphics game out of your PC, if your PC scores in a range 5.0 - 5.9 it would signify a better performance and good looking visuals for your games.

Hope this answers your query

You cannot raise the experience index if it is a laptop. Graphics cards are one of the few things you cannot change or upgrade on a laptop, unfortunately.

Cpu is underpowered and affecting performance

If you're speaking of the Windows Experience Index, ignore it as it isn't a good indicator of performance or quality. I've got a 2 Gb 1256 GHz video card in an SLI configuration I can run full resolution at 120 fps. According to the Windows Experience Index my video card is 7.1 gaming rating but under Astro it only ranks 4.3 and thus regardless of how fast my 8 core machine is (4.8 Ghz) with 32 Gb 1600 RAM, my index rating ultimately is based on the lowest number.

I have a Compaq Presario sr111onx desktop with Windows 7 Pro OS 32 bit and it is slow will it be better to use Windows xp?

It depends on the Experience Rating Index that Win 7 gives you. To see the rating, right click on My Computer and select Properties. If it asks to refresh the rating index, do so. After that, check which one has the lowest rating. If it's the processor that gets the lowest rating (if it is below 2) then yes, you should install Windows XP. If it is the graphic card, or the RAM memory that has the lowest rating, you can upgrade them to make it run better and keep Windows 7.

You can see more about the rating scores on this Microsoft website: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Experience-Index-Understand-and-improve-your-computers-performance-in-Windows-Vista

Please i want to enable aero in windows 7 my direct x is 11 and 64mb graphics

Hi waquashashmi,

A way to know if your Windows 7 system supports Aero or not is to look at Windows Experience Index score. The score (both base score and subscore for graphics component) should be equal or higher than 3.0 for Aero to work. To view your Windows Experience Index, go to Control Panel -> System and Security -> System, then click on "Windows Experience Index".

To display Aero effects such as transparency in Windows 7, follow these steps:
  1. Make sure that Windows Experience Index has been calculated and computed.
  2. Click on Start menu.
  3. Type the following text into the Start Search box: Aero
  4. Click on a search result listing under Control Panel group that named as the following: Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects
    arun_zac_16.jpg
Trick: If you don't see "Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects" in the search results, click on Control Panel to see all Aero related items in Control Panel.
  5. An "Aero - Troubleshoot computer problems" wizard dialog will appear. Click on Next button. arun_zac_17.jpg
  6. The troubleshooting wizard will try to detect any problem by running a series of checks against various components required to make Aero works and running, such as video memory, Desktop Windows Manager (DWM) service, color depth, theme, power settings and etc. At the end of the analysis, the wizard will attempt to fix the issues related to Aero service and restart the Aero feature. arun_zac_18.jpg

If this information was helpful, please rate it.

Thank you for using Fixya,

Graphics too poor in my laptop.

If you are feeling that the graphics is too poor on your laptop, please update/reinstall your graphics drivers. This may not be updated. The hardware as such delivers good quality graphics even though you cant classify it to be excellent.
