After replacing my psu (was old and it shorted out) my LG CD-ROM GCR-8523B doesn't work. It has power but the computer doesn't recognize it..?

It is possible that when psu shorted it shorted part of the mother board. Try going into device manager right on the cd-rom in the list and choose search for new hard ware in the drop down menu. If this doesn't work go back into device manager right click the cd-rom and uninstall the cd-rom and reboot the pc. If it does not auto find the cd-rom that way, the mother board is probably messed up. Oh yeah try unplugging the ribbon cable for the cd-rom from the mother board and plug it back in also.

Please rate, and write testimonial if you feel the need to, if this was helpful.

You can try installing the Western digital smart ware via the CD provided with the drives or the Western Digital site. In many cases, this will allow older computers to recognize the drive;

Hi. I have a Macbook 10.5.7 Leopard and a WD 320 gb hard drive. When I plug in the hard drive to my Macbook, it no longer recognizes, meaning the computer doesnt even recognize there is something plugged...

some things coming to my mind are
1) the hard drive doesnt have mac partitions
2)the hard drive is not correctly formatted
3)the rom chip on the pcb lost information
4) the drive corrupted one of its firm ware modules usually the ata module.
if you cant solve this problem pm me.

No boot after putting a new hard disck and dvd rw

This can be complicated. You need to check the bios to see if the hard drive and dvd are being recognized by the POST and the Bios. Once into the bios check the boot order and make sure that the order of the drives is your main CD/DVD drive and then your main hard drive first.

Let me know if I can help further
